D750 owners, are you finding it necessary to add the grip if you are shooting w/primes? What about w/zooms?

I don't find it necessary, but I've yet to shoot for extended periods of time.

I plan to get one eventually, but I'll get a used one...Nikon wants too much for it new, imo.

I would like to grip it, but I refuse to pay the exorbitant Nikon prices and need to give third party grips a bit of time to make sure there are no camera frying bug issues.

Well that's an interesting option, and looks like it's pretty good quality. Does using a third party item like this void the warranty, I wonder?

The 1/4000th and the lack of a back af is what holds this camera back from being near perfect. I know I know I know there are ways around it, blah blah blah. But if I was to dream of a near perfect camera it would be the D750 plus 1/8000th and a back af.

I'm wondering that. My wife definitely won't want a grip for hers, but I think I'm at a place where I'd like a grip for mine. I don't want to worry about swapping out batteries mid-wedding, and I do shoot a lot of vertical images, so it's nice to have that vertical d-pad selector and the vertical shutter.

I'm coming from years of using two D3's, before that a (Nikon)gripped D700, and before that a (third party)gripped D90, I found myself really missing a vertical release on my D750. I just received an MB-D16 but haven't had a chance to use it. Feels nice and I love the second "4-way" selector on the grip. Yes the Nikon grip is expensive but feels much nicer than any third-party grip I have ever tried. I'll be shooting over the weekend so I'll have more information decide on...

Where did you get MB-D16 to buy? Amazon and B & H does not have it in stock.

Got my MB-D16 from B+H. I ordered it approximately a month ago and it shipped last week.

There was once a time that I gripped my small bodies like the 5D and 5D II, and I liked it.

I'm at a different stage as a photographer now I guess where I prefer less weight, less bulk, just plain less. There is no way I would put a battery grip on my D750 or D800. I carry extra batteries so that's not a problem, and I love how lightweight they are.

I usually have three matching bodies — the third one (emergency body) is gripped for rare times we shot with a big telephoto (ski down weddings, motorcycle bride+groom sessions)
