Moved my home storage to a NAS device - not nearly as quick as this but the flexibly is nice given the number of devices I now have.

Mediasonic HFR2-SU3S2FW ProRaid is a 4 Bay Enclosure for 3.5' SATA I / II / III hard disk drive. It has hardware embedded raid to support raid 0 / 1 / 3 / 5 / 10.

Supports Firewire 400&800, USB 2 and 3, and eSATA connections. Configured with four perfectly matched 2TB Western Digital (Black) drives. Easily saturates the Firewire and USB 2.0 connections and gets excellent performance on USB 3.0 and eSata (see test below).

How old is this? Any issues with dropping drives?

I put this together 3 years ago and used it as my mostly as my main backup (so intermittent moderate use) for about 2 years.

I had it connected to my Mac Pro using (initially) Firewire 800 and (later) eSATA, with neither having any problems with dropped drives (I assume that you meant dropped as in unexpectedly disconnected rather than physically dropped drives - which also did not happen
