So, someone said something on here about a week ago, and I don't remember who so pardon the lack of credit, but he/she said "do what you love, outsource what you don't". That's had me thinking a lot lately. I do not love culling, album design, and generally being at a desk all day. I NEED to put in about 40 hours in the office a week, but with 2-3 portraits a week 30-40 weddings a year and a ton of traveling, I just have no interest in being in the office that much. SO...
I am looking to hire a Studio Manager, responsibilities would be:
-Light accounting (just entering in my expenses and deposits into QB)
-Culling weddings
-Album Design
-Order
-Runs to the post office/delivery etc.
-Getting my oil changed
That being said, I have no idea how to pay said person. Those of you who have studio managers, how do you pay them? Is culling too much for someone to learn? Could you bring a newbie in and teach it? Anywho, thoughts are appreciated. ...Show more →

I think you are looking for 2 completely different jobs. And you will overpay for the rest of the work if they are competent in the first job.

That sounds like a good salary for the lucky guy you employ !!
A) As player of war mentions, you seem to have 2 different job descriptions. I wouldn't want someone else designing albums and culling weddings, as tedious as those tasks might be, both determine quite a lot about your brand.
B) I would want a person to do this: 1. book initial consults and send general inquiry packets of information, and add those meetings into a client server that's tied directly to my smart phone, something like Outlook. 2. everything else you mention that doesn't require an artistic eye (no album design, no culling). 3. greet clients when they come to studio for appointment.
C) I would totally work part-time for you if I could.
