I have finally saved enough to invest into any of these two lenses now. Here is my small portfolio: http://www.playsofrays.com/-/galleries/portfolio
Can you suggest or just recommend one over the other?

it seems like 85 f/1.2 is more of a specialized lens. You get it when you KNOW what you are going to do with it. On the other side 70-200 can be a multipurpose lens. You can play with it and learn what it can do for you.

I know photographers who prefer to have both 85mm and 70-200 2.8. Those lenses are both good for portraits but produce some kind of different "looks".
Judging by your portfolio and your goals I'd say you'll be definitely happy with either of them.

But!!! Then I saw these your words!

Thanks for your suggestion. I had 85 1.8 and liked it but I didn't find it any different than my 50 1.4 so I sold it off.

If you once had 85mm lens but you've sold it because of your 50 1.4 then I'm sure you need to buy 70-200 2.8.
Yes, maybe it happened because of crop camera. But you wount find any new "magic" in 1.2 II - the "look" would be different but it would be again 85mm lens...

I think you have to buy 70-200 2.8. Great lens for different kinds of people photography (portraits, sports etc) and even landscapes.
I would say even more - your photos are good judging by your PF, but with 70-200 your photos would be better and more diverse.

Most should have 70-200 imo. As soon as you said mainly the choice was clear. I'd go with the 70-200.

I enjoy the challenge and specialty of the prime lenses and that's all I own. I love my 85 1.4 My next purchase is either going to be the 200 f2 or the 24 1.4, haven't decided yet.

the 85 1.2L II has slow AF and is very prone to CA. I've used it on the street and while I was pleased with the quality of the images they often required corrections. The 70-200 2.8L IS II is super fast, has a relatively short MFD, and also produces images with a great look. The downside of that lens is the weight and IMO the size makes it harder to maneuver with in busy public areas, plus it can be a little intimidating to subjects.

IMO, in a controlled environment the 85 is awesome. But out in the world I'd rather have the 70-200.

I would choose the 70-200 2.8 for more versatility (portraits, indoor sports, etc.)

Thank you so much, everyone. I am so glad I posted this thread here. I got to hear a lot of good things about both the lenses.
As almost all of you suggested, I bought the 70-200 f/2.8
I also tried it with my girlfriend on he weekend and I was amazed at the speed of AF, sharpness and colors. I will post a separate thread for the set but here's one. Very small processing on it:

I have both lenses. I have set aside the 70-200 2.8L IS for almost 3 years now, and am constantly using the 85 1.2L. I realized that I do more portraits than anything else, and my style of shooting is portraiture, even when doing weddings. No other lens can do what the 85 1.2L can do.
