p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Sigma 150-600 OS & Tamron SP150-600 DI VC Compare | |
Comparing the Sigma 150-600 OS Sport with Tamron's SP 150-600 DI VC is kinda of mixed bag in the sense of how the Sigma performs at certain apertures and shutter speeds. I used my Gitzo GT3532LS with the Jobu HD3 Gimbal to get all of the test shots just like I do when I'm shooting with my Tamron , every shot I have taken from the Tamron has been spot on with images shot as low as 1/100 of second have been real sharp! The Tamron in this respect almost never fails me.
The Sigma seems to have some sort of issue with consistency from one shot to the next as you can see in the photos of the coyote shot at 600mm, First frame is soft second frame is sharp third frame is real soft and I got a 20frame sequence of this!! sharp soft sharp!! So I know what some of you are about say! Glen your shutter speed is to slow! Nope not the case here, 20 frames at f8 at 1/320th at ISO 2200. This is a walk in the park for my Tamron. Do I think I have a bad copy?Maybe.
So today I decided to run some more tests at a base ISO setting locked down solid on my Gimbal with the mirror in the up position and using a wireless remote shutter release. The results show that the Sigma is a little sharper wide open at f6.3 and f8 then the Tamron at the same settings, see images below all cropped at 100%. So this tell me that the lens is sharper then the Tamron if you are willing to shoot with hatches buttoned down tight! but that's not how I shoot wildlife, sometimes I'm panning sometimes I shoot handheld sometimes with slower shutter speeds depending on light conditions. So I need a lens that's great all around and the Tamron fit's the bill. Again I may have a weak copy of this lens I don't know. I will be out testing it more tomorrow.
