Mt. Bonneville is very prominent as you drive east down main street in Pinedale, Wy. It regularly gets a spectacular winter light up at sundown--simply because of its face and the setting winter sun angle. On this night is was extra special--great cloud patterns and texture. Thanks for looking!

Holy Crap! Those colors are pretty 'nuclear', but very impressive scene. Compositionally, it's always difficult to cut out something very interesting, but the very bright orange clouds at the top rob attention from the mountains below, and give that 'eyes bouncing back and forth' type of tension while viewing. I'd suggest a pano crop, including only the slightly darker orange cloud band at the top, and avoiding the brightest parts. Scaling the overall saturation back a little would also feel more natural.

Hey Dave,

Wow... what crazy color here. It looks great! But I had the same thought as Dave did, do you have a tighter shot? Crop off the top band of clouds, I think a shot that was tighter and focused on those lenticular type clouds over the mountain would be out of this world good. As great as all that color is, I think like Dave mentioned that it actually distracts a bit from the super cool clouds lower down in the shot.

Dave and Jim, What do you think about this? Is this about what you had in mind? Let me know what you think. Thanks a ton for the suggestions--I am not totally sold--but I'm invested in the overall image and the scene--so I am a bit impartial! haha. Have a great Sunday!

I think that crop does help. You could probably include a tiny amount more of the orange cloud at top, so it clearly becomes an 'element' rather than an 'intrusion' in the composition, although this will include some of the brighter part. That could be burned down in brightness a little, to not have something so bright at the edge of the frame. Either way, it's a very dramatic scene.

Holy Crap is right! I like the cropped version better. Better balanced. But I would prefer leaving more area in the sky though. Tad bit left area crop was only needed. But all in all.. wow! factor you have. Can you please post the image somewhat larger? Thanks.

Here we go--added a bit back to the top and reduced a bit on the left side. Also, a bit slimmer on the bottom. And, a bit bigger.

Thanks, and I welcome your thoughts!!

Great light here and a spectacular scene. I like the first cropped one best. Which version does the OP prefer?

I like the original and last crop the best, maybe go a little wider on the last crop. The middle crop robs too much of the top and makes it more boring.
