I kind of hate my self for saying this, but....I'd kind of like it in a classic batman kind of way. The other part of me thinks it is gaudy as F***. But then again, I always liked the black Df more than the silver

Additionally, Nikon has kind of had a thing for black + gold (in a more subtle way ) for a while with gold ringed lenses, and gold N logos. Actually come to think I wonder how well it would match a 58/1.4 or a 28/1.8,etc with the gold markings

Another example of how Nikon doesn't really understand it's customer base. I suppose it will appeal to a few people who just want to be different, but I don't see this as fitting in with the "retro" theme. Gold bling is kind of the opposite of subtle. Most people who were thinking of the Df as a D700 replacement are looking at D750's... so they had a bunch of black Df's on the shelf going no where and thought this might clear them out? Maybe a few, but if I were a Nikon stock holder I'd be thinking it doesn't seem very strategic.

or they do understand their customer base and that's why it's a Japan release.

Sorry to say I did sell it after last year's birding season.

I wanted something lighter and picked up the 300 f/4.

Well hells bells, someone better tell Nikon to stop putting GOLD name plates and GOLD rings on their BLACK lenses.

It may well be appropriate, given it's the cleanest high ISO in all of Nikon(Canon)land.

Oh I like it! They should've gone all out and made the hotshoe gold as well.

That would be going from Gucci to Ghetto.

I do love the look, it will be even better to pair with Nikon pro lens. I can't imagine for people love photography don't care the look of subject, even it is just a tool with certain function.

Gucci IS ghetto.

That silver hotshoe looks out of place amidst the gold highlights.

You must realize that the gold plating on hotshoe will wear out after attaching the speedlite a few times.
