Certain subjects like flies and their relatives are frustrating to shoot head-on because their "noses" (I don't know their exact term for this body part) protrude and therefore do not exist on the same focal plane as their eyes. Since I don't focus stack, the only way I could get their "noses" (as well as the "whiskers" protruding from their "noses") in focus along with their eyes is to shoot from an angle or to wait for the subject to twist its head, like this bug:
