Bob,
You are making life difficult for me here on Critique.
To my eye, you are nailing these images back to back.
I am left admiring, envious, but lacking for suggestions.
And square crops too?!!
But don't worry about me.
Keep them coming!

Almass - I like how your rework brings more out of the detail (especially the springs), but I dig the mood more in Bob's original.
I'm VERY curious to see how the shot would look if you met in the middle.
Cheers,
Jeff
First time I tried the multi-quote button...now to see if it works.
A big thank you everyone for your generous comments. All I can offer is that sometimes you get in the zone? Other times, being most, you're not
I will add that I've become more deliberate and selective in what I capture - I've actually been able to walk away without a shutter-press. Thus in other words setting aside the fire-hose spray approach has been helpful. Also I have settled into using a specific, repeatable workflow, putting the myriad tools and a bit-of-this-a-bit-of-that thrashing around aside. Of course I cannot guarantee this will continue but it works for the moment anyway.
I will note I have not been as nearly satisfied with my rugby-pitch work - maybe because I'm using a DSLR?
Anyway, thanks again,
Bob
