Just watched a series on Smithsonian or Discovery channel about the airport construction going on in Dubai. The work they are doing will make it the largest in the world. They had a small segment which highlighted visitors to the country and the fact that anything coming in that violates Muslim religion and/or Islamic law can result in banishment from the country and/or jail time. They don't fool around.

If our predecessors had read and abided by liberty-restrictive rules then the free society we live in today wouldn't have been possible.

When at Road Atlanta, there are places that I want to shoot from … but Dr. Don says I can’t. If I try, I would be escorted out and not invited back …

If I were invited to your home, you would expect me to abide by your rules … No guns(?) … No booze(?) … No trash talk … No cooking wild game on the living room floor … etc. …

That doesn’t deprive me of any of my liberties because I don’t have to come.
When in Rome … or Dubai … it’s their house … their rules ….

I wouldn’t go and challenge Dubai over my wanting a BLT and a Beer … I’d get Bread and Water … if I still had a head …
The liberty-restrictive rules our predecessors lived under resulted in a war. Not worth it for a few photos or a BLT and a Beer …

A man is sitting in jail because presumably he took a photograph of a public place. One of the principles of freedom is that individuals don't get to decide what freedoms should be important to others.

He should not have been taking photos in a restricted area in a “country” where a ruling family has all the say. It’s their house. ... period.

If you want to pick a fight over liberty-restrictive rules, you don’t have to go far from home. Remember the prohibitive restrictions placed on reporters and photographers when the Feds shipped the illegals that came across our boarders to other States, here in the USA … wouldn’t even let the Representatives from those States in.

…and we (used to) have a Constitution, and the Government is supposed to protect those Rights … not regulate or restrict them.

I could go on … this is not the place … this is Fred’s House and he does not run a Political Forum …

I don't see how human rights are a political discussion. If "rules" of the past were followed then black people wouldn't have freedom, women wouldn't be allowed to vote, and we wouldn't have the luxury of debating this topic in a public place without the power of the state brought to bear on whoever's opinion differed from established rule. And counter examples of current freedom restrictions in the USA don't lend any credibility to rules - they simply demonstrate that we have abridged freedoms here as well.

Human “Rights” can only be maintained in a “Political” environment. The reason we have a Constitution. It sets the limits of Government by Law. The Rule of Law … not Rule of Man.

Injecting an emotionally based argument without Constitutional backing is dangerous.

I could argue that every individual has a “right” to a house and to be fed three times a day. That would cause someone to give up something. It would have to be taken away from someone else by force to comply. The government is not a charitable organization … it’s a government designed (originally) to protect the rights of its individual citizens.

There’s a 90 year old Veteran trying to feed homeless people in Fla. .

The local Government in Fla. has decided not to allow him to do that. The reason is it scares away customers from the local businesses. Does this Veteran have the Right to deprive a local business owner of costumers that the owner uses to feed his family and offer jobs to the community … ?

Would the Veteran be better off working within maybe an environment more conducive to charitable work …? Does not the business owner have the Right to run his business unimpeded … ?

Why do we have zoning ordinances … ? Is that not (in most cases and intent) the Government protecting the Rights of the business owner and individual … ?

I fully support the 90 year old Veteran in his objective …
Would you be fine with a McDonalds next door to your home …. Even if they gave the food to the homeless or others in need … ?

How ‘bout the neighbors ..? Why not invite the Vet, to distribute the food from your house ... ?
… Sort of playing Devils’ Advocate here to make a point. …

… And …

You don’t have a “right” to drive …
You don’t have a “right” to vote …

Read the US Constitution and the Federalist Papers to see what the founders had in mind … and the arguments that went along with the final decisions …
It’s a good read …

Jefferson …

It really depends on the costume.

Not sure which of my posts you believe I injected emotion - I've been dispassionate about the topic thus far. The issues you raise are those of rights of the individual vs the collective and society, which are worthy of discussion but separate from the issue at hand. Standing outside on public land taking photos of distant inanimate objects falls within the realm of inalienable rights and is distinct from your examples of whether people have a right to state-provided material possessions or sustenance. As for your zoning example and feeding the homeless, those are civil violations and don't cause people to be placed into prison, at least in all but the extreme enforcement cases and even then they are afforded due process by civil law first, notwithstanding the occasional power abuse cases.

Some people have no self control. Is it known what off-limit area was being photographed?
