Wyoming just before torrential rains.

Sophomoric attempt @ some heavy handed PP to try and emulate the dark vibe of the diminishing light.

You've certainly got the dark vibe going!
Tilted to the left? Or slope of the hills?

I think you could use a bit more detail/contrast in the clouds if you really want the 'approaching storm' feel. The right-hand side of the clouds, in particular, could use a bit more detail.

Thanks John,

Here's the sooc for comp/play ... ultra-flat light.

The horizon is likely a bit of operator error (high winds).

Since heavy-handed is allowed. Here is my take.
(I re-posted with a darker version.)

I like it, Greg! It's taken on a tilt shift look.

Obviously an image that evokes a response. (Or many responses.)
I didn't say it on my previous post but....

Nice image Kent.

sorry for the off topic question but its relevant---

when looking for exif info on a thread with multiple images, I can't seem to isolate which image my exif viewer (jeffreys) will show.

for instance, when i hit my exif button on this thread, the 1st image shows up but I can't right click or seem to do anything to get any of the following images exif data to show up.

Help please

thanks ben even though its the same image, its processed differently and can't the info for processing an image be shown, assuming it is attached?

FYI, for other threads with different images, I can't seem to isolate as well.

Interesting to see the various takes. Another stab of mine.

Jim, how did you find the pinks in the sky ... or are they a fabrication?

I replaced the sky with a different one. Added some red in the bottom with levels-red and even painted in some color. Just a 5 minute job. I can hardly stand to do Photoshop anymore. I just completed a 100+ page Blurb book and did lots and lots of editing in a short period of time....short being several 10 hour days. (BTW, if you are interested the entire book is available for preview, just go to the Blurb bookstore and search for Special Places-Summer 2014.)

Scott, you beat me to mono, hadn't quite gone there yet.

Jim,

I couldn't find you on Blurb ... got a link?

Jim,

That's quite an assembly of imagery ... inspiring both for the images and the required effort.

Thanks, putting together a large blurb book takes me a lot of time. My layout was pretty simple so the actual book only took a day of effort. It was the processing that wore me out. I had about 200 images that I had processed while traveling. They were processed while using my laptop and some needed to be redone. I processed about 200 more images for a total of about 400. I reviewed these on my monitor but had difficulty making the selections for the book. So I used Qimage software to batch process and downsized and added a small amount of sharpening. I uploaded about 300 images and had Costco print about them at 4x6 for $0.13 each. I then culled and sorted to approximately layout the book. I think I retained about 150 images as book worthy.

Next I had to prepare the images for printing. I typically process with my monitor at a low brightness setting of about 80. Even so I know that processed images that look good on the monitor will print too dark. I had to review each image, adjust the brightness, set the color space to sRGB and save as a JPEG to a new file.

I thought about asking for some help with this workflow but could not think of an appropriate forum. I suppose I could have posted on the PP and Printing Forum but there is not much traffic on that forum.

Hi Jim, not to mention the travel this required. You sure do like Balanced Rock, so do I, especially from that slickrock across the road from the normal area.

Nice book, let us know if it sells well enough to be worth the effort.

No sales expected. I do this to give to my kids as a way to preserve some of my works and to show the grandkids some of my travels. There are thousands of photo vacation travel books and print on demand is too expensive to generate any sales.
