When I go into Live View mode to check manual focus, the LV becomes laggy. I've read somewhere thats just how the D800 comes. True?

Live View > Zoom Magnification > After 2 Mag, becomes choppy and lags.

It is normal. I usually only magnify once because of this.

Curious if the D810 has this solved.

The D810 (and D750) doesn't become less choppy (or not much), but it also doesn't interpolate when zoomed.

And both aspects are net wins (the interpolation when zooming makes confirming critical focus more difficult).
