Mitesh invited me to drive down to Stumpy Lake to meet for a shoot. and we met last Sat. We both like to shoot from our kayaks, so I brought mine, and we had a great paddle and shoot. This is the first time I have met Mitesh, and he's a great guy. Thank Mitesh for the invite - I thoroughly enjoyed it.

We saw a ton of cormies, lots of egrets, a good number of GBHs, and an eagle or two.

Thanx for looking, and as always, C&C appreciated ~ Ron

1 - Backlit egret - I'm not sure why the sky is such an odd color, but decided to leave it that way in hoping someone might have an idea.

2 - Great Egret incoming.

3 - The cypress trees were beautiful in their fall colors.

4 - GE in a cypress.

5 - Liftoff!

Well, the if shots were not showing any sky noise in PS, but I do see noise on FM...

6 - One of the hundreds of cormies on the lake.

7 - 'nother if shot.

8 - The BGhs were skittish, so here is one doin' nothin'. ;-)

9 - I couldn't resist getting a shot of my host - sorry Mithesh. LOL

Great IQ on all these Ron...and also nice to put a face with the name for Mitesh...who knew he was a left eyed shooter

Good Morning Ron!
Spectacular compositions!!! The "bazookas" you and friend Mitesh carry really capture the detail and sharpness exquisitely! I should have bought "Johnny Bravo's 500mm last week!
Now on #1..is it color or b/w?? My eyes at 67 have trouble distinguishing that here. Ok I see it is color from the small gold light in left tree branch......What time of day? Was there haze in the atmosphere? Was ther high cloud cover? Clouds do strange things to light refraction and absorption.
Great to see members uniting!!
Well done both of you!

Beautiful set, Ron. #3,4,8 are my favorite. It is not easy to kayaking and tracking IF, Ron. You did so well. And this is the first time I saw Mitesh. Would it be nice if all of us have a thread where we will post our selfie so we would know each other better

Looks like a worthwhile trip, both on the personal and photographic fronts. #3 & #$ are my faves of the set. Very nice work.

Fantastic shots Ron. Looks like you had a wonderful time.

What color was the sky? What metering mode were you using. Atmospheric conditions aside, the camera could have been trying to balance out the bright and largest portion of the scene. I know when I try and shoot a really backlit subject without any fill flash , if I meter on the subject the sky does strange things. You could try metering on the sky, lock exposure , use EC if necessary and see what happens.

As for me I , too, shoot with my left eye

Hi Ron, lovely shots. Some great closeups. The cypress shot takes the cake and nice seeing Mitesh as well.

Thankfully, the rest of your set is much better! You got some great IFs. Thanks for driving down so early in the morning- it was great to meet you and lots of fun paddling and stalking the birds together! Let's do this again sometime soon!
