Does anyone know of a review that compares the high iso performance of the D750 and the D810?

Thanks

Each has its own purpose and you can have both.

Mshi - do you want to describe what those separate purposes are?

I don't think Nasim has compared it directly to the 810 has he?

I forget what blog it was, but they posted some compelling evidence that the D750 high ISO was even better than the D3S. I believe it's a little better than the D810.

I would lean towards the D750 as:

1. Lightweight
2. Sports/wedding shooting
3. Video
4. Travel

I would go with the D810 for:

1. Printing large or cropping (wildlife or landscapes)
2. More useable 1.2x & 1.5x crop modes
2. Studio work
3. Larger buffer if required

Both cameras can be used professionally and deliver amazing results. Flash sync speed, max shutter speed, low iso performance, tilt screen etc etc, are all factors that may tip one in favour of the other. In other words, you really can't go wrong with either one.

With the D810's buffer and speed at 1.2x crop it makes it a wonderful wildlife body.

To me, the most important question to ask yourself is how big you Need, not want, to print. There are times, perhaps, you want to print as large as possible and you want to view it up close; there are also times you need to share it at no more than 2MP online. I really don't know his needs. But I do know I have seen work out of lowly point-and-shoot at MoMa. Maybe, he's a better "artist" and as the result better cameras will produce even better artwork for him?

Could it be this?

You have to scroll down for the 12800 ISO comparison with D3s.

I have a D3s and a D800 now. I shoot studio portraits, live classical and jazz concerts and theater. I need low light and I need to print big at times. I shoot wildlife for fun.

I'm thinking of moving to either a D750 or a DF to replace the D3s for the concert/theater work and a D810 for the portrait and wildlife.

Both are much quieter than the D3s and the D800 which is a factor for me shooting live concerts.

I just don't want to give up the ISO advantages of the D3s without something to replace it.

I'm familiar with Ross's blog post which is what is inspiring me to consider the D750 over the DF to replace my D3s. I do NOT shoot weddings.. but the events I shoot are sometimes similar in terms of low light needs.

Some people may not agree-yet, but IMO the 750 will do for high ISO what the D3s did when it came out. I know of two pros who are selling their d4's for 750's

D810 in 1.2 crop is actually slower than a D750 natively (6 vs 6.5fps). You do get more buffer and more reach though.

The Df doesn't really make sense here; it's biggest attributes are it's classic handling and legacy lens compatibility combined with the D4 sensor. Average AF in good light and below average AF in poor light compared to Nikon's current full-frame lineup (D6x0 excluded) would likely make for a frustrating experience.

Otherwise, your switchup mostly makes sense, as the D750 is likely the 'best' low-light camera available. Given it's higher resolution sensor, high ISO IQ, great AF tracking and great low-light AF performance it's more likely to nail focus and provide a usable shot in low-light than most any other camera on the market. However, it's doubtful that the shots will be better at the highest ISO settings than the D3S, and the D750 is decidedly not a pro-build!

I have both the D3s and the 750. From what I've seen so far the 750 IS better than the D3s and at twice the resolution too.

I rented a DF and shot it at a concert with excellent results. Comparable to the D3s. Never had a problem focusing.. however, 6400 was the highest iso I needed for that event... so, maybe not the best comparison.

The quiet shutter is a great selling point to me. D750 shutter is clickier and more noticeable. I sure like the size and the images I'm seeing.
