Of a F-4J Phantom II, residing on the deck of the USS Yorktown in Charleston, South Carolina.

No engine, so you've got a straight shot right out the front.

Comments, critiques, reworks and suggestions all welcome.

Thanks!

Jeff

In case you are aiming for a symmetriysh shot, here are two re-edits for you.

The first is centering the round opening and cleaning the sides for a more symmetriysh comp and keeping your original B/W render.
The second in addition to the centering and cleaning, The B/W has been rebalanced to add more center focus impact.

Pipes 3 and 4 are more dramatized and now you have 4 versions, all subjective

Almass, thanks for reworks! I definitely like your symmetrical reworks.

I was going for a more symmetrical looking border/exterior to the shot in order to bring in the eyes from all sides. I prefer the off center look as I think it prevents to viewer from just zooming right to the not so exciting finishing point in the middle and maybe stopping off and looking a bit more closely as some of points along the way.

Upon comparing my processing to your reworks, I think I need some more punch/black in there and less of the flatter and grayish look.

Thanks again!

Jeff

+1 @ off-center (subject to taste)

Maybe a square crop for symmetrical versions and an off-center crop to accentuate the desired asymmetry. Color version

I could definitely see a square crop with this one.

I can post a color version after work for the curious!

Tried to push it into the corner to follow the off center line of the capture, but not much negative space to work with ... OP w/crop only.

This crop version is a little vertigo inducing for me (but I'm on meds atm also) ... anyone else?

Funny you should post that, Kent.

I meant to ask in my OP if losing the exterior symmetry would make the picture more interesting or give it a better flow. I definitely have more room to work with here in terms of crop.

I was going for some formal asymmetry perfectly aligned (rotated) to the corner, but this one works for me with more of a golden mean asymmetry ... especially given the vertigo impact.

What else have you got?

+1 for Rusty's off center comp. More dynamic and 3D than centered image, succeeding in pulling you in and through.

Now I feel it!

What else in terms what to work with or other shots?

Either or both ... I meant the wider view and/or color version of this one. Of course, others are always welcome, too.

I'm feelin' it too (makes me woozy) ... wondering how much more you could get it to "pull" you through with some selective sharpening / selective contrast tweaking (I'm not gonna try right now, I'm too loopy on meds now as is).

Ouch.. sorry Kent. I haven't experienced them myself, but I hear they are hellish.

Quick recovery!

Thanks.

Morphine & Vicodin make it a little less so ... been going on since Friday, I'm so way ready for it to be over, but nothing yet.

Bonus for the forum: you're probably going to be posting more frequently since you're holed up!

I'm only good for some simple stuff, hurts too much to think very coherently for any steady duration.

BTW ... the irony of your title @ "Through The Pipes" and Phantom takes on a bit diff meaning right now.

Ahahaha I did not even pick up on that.

Even more reason for you to take a shot at the RAW when I post it.

RAW ... let's not even go there after the 'crusher / electrocution' treatment.

Too funny @ the irony of words, but it hurts to laugh too. More meds in an hour

The worst part ... timing @ shooting fall colors.
Nothing for me this year, while some of my family is in the Smokies right now.

Oh well, I made Badlands, Rushmore, YNP and GTNP in September. Smokies will still be there next year.

Back to your pics ... more to show?

Ahaha wow you were on a roll there.

I was in the Smokies last year about this time - it was gorgeous!

You've had a good run, so no worries about that.

Here's the RAW! https://www.dropbox.com/s/6ilfejqwrnrshdz/IMG_3297.CR2?dl=0

Also attached an updated edit.

Thanks for helping out!

Jeff
