that's allot of bang for the buck imo..maybe just add a 50 1.8 G for $200 and might be all most folks would ever need

I just added a Nikon 180 f2.8 to the kit. Together w/ a flash, it's a very usable setup.

hell I don't know, with the high ISO and VR it's a wash to me..and a ton lighter than a 2.8 would be..indoor sports or action is the only advantage I can think a 2.8 has

I don't know how well it would work in really low lit wedding ceremonies and receptions. Some of the receptions barely have any light.

Correct me if I'm wrong but with that lens when you are at 100mm or 120mm it would go to like F5.6 or something, F4 is probably only at the wide end right?

I'm not a big 50 fan. The setup for me would be 24-120 and then the 35 and 85 f1.8G primes.

This lens stays at the set aperture no matter what the zoom range, even wide open at f/4. Along with the range and great overall optics, it makes a great walk-around lens. It makes that bundle seriously tempting...

I picked up the kit with 24-120 F4 VR and I really love it coming from a 5DIII setup. With the quality at high ISO you can shoot almost anything with this combo, I am impressed! I added a 50 1.4G and 85 1.8G for low light - really like the quality and value of the kit! Looking to add some more 1.8G primes in the future.

I have the exact same lenses and setup [D750 w/24-120, 50 f1.4, 85 f1.8] and to switching from a canon 6D. Hard to give up my canon 70-200 f2.8 VII, but it's going up for sale.

Yes, I just used mine for my first gig and it was flawless! Love the files you get out of the camera and all the lenses I have seem superior to their canon counterparts. Excited to add a 20 1.8 to round out my primes.

I'm really thinking about this deal. I read on another 'infamous' blog site that the 24-120 lens has lots of distortion (as well as the 28-300). But that the camera's software compensates for this.
Any comments?

Thanks

Distortion is one of those things easily fixed in camera or in post if you shoot raw.

Thanks Vinnie, by fixing 'in camera' does that mean that it is done seamlessly w/o any need for user input? And does it do it on Jpegs and RAW?

There is nothing gained without a loss. Do you know what you give up when correcting distortion?

Based on my experience the 24-120 F4 VR is a great lens. People tend to discount the quality of lenses like these (such as the canon 24-105 F4L IS) when in reality they deliver plenty of resolution for even large prints. The effects of correcting for distortion, vignetting and other small imperfections are fairly minor factors in the final image quality. We are very lucky to have these high quality lenses to work with for such a great value.

Bottom line, the current buddy pricing gets you a lens than can shoot almost anything on a full frame for around $600. Amazing!

Anyone who doubts the quality of that lens simply is doing so out of ignorance. It's sharp as can be, focuses very fast and accurate, and has a range that is unmatched...esp at f4.
With todays high iso capability its just a non issue. I shoot weddings and pro sports..including indoor, and its simply not an issue.

Try it before you knock it.

I agree the 24-120 f4 VR is an outstanding lens. Delivers nice crisp images throughout its range wide open. If you want a D750 now and do not have this lens, it is hellova deal.
