From last weekend in the Monongahela Nat'l forest in West Virginia. I also have versions of this shot with a different foreground (more water, less rock) and a horizontal comp., but I think the symmetry of this one makes it the most interesting.

Steve

10/22 EDIT: I just posted two variations of this shot below. I'd love to hear what strikes your fancy.

10/23 EDIT: Clarity added to all images.

Elakala Falls

Elakala Falls 2

Elakala Falls 3

Very nice. Glad to see the water is up again. I'm tempted to make a run there is weekend, despite the leaves being past peak.

I was at the Dolly Sods past weekend.. No more red leaves on those bushes any more. All blown away. AND the wind was so strong, I could not put the tripod up. Took a few shots from inside the car, but still car was rocking..
So much water here.. and I like the B&W version. Good work, Steve!

Nice shot Steve. I know that it is a challenge getting a good shot from that close to the falls when the water is up.

Hey Steve,

What a beautiful shot! Love it. The B&W is perfect, and the whole shot just flows very nicely.

Thanks for the kind words, everyone. Indeed, it was a little tricky getting close to the fall. Between the spray and recent rain, the rocks were all very slippery. Note to self, need to investigate slip-proof boots!

I like the rock with the water flow over it to anchor the bottom, might have cropped out the big rock at the bottom and let the one in the water be the anchor.

Interesting idea, Travis. That should work very well for the horizontal crop that I have. Will try to get that one up tomorrow when I'm home.

I have to scroll down to see the entire image and at first glance only seeing the waterfall I was thinking "OK, nice waterfall blur" but then came to realize the foreground really makes this shot standout. Nice B&W conversion as well.

I really like your very first posted vertical best. Would it be possible to use some selective clarity/sharpening to bring out a little more texture/detail from the foreground rock?

Thanks for the suggestion, mabidally. Image #1 updated with max clarity in the rock, and a smaller amount globally.

I like the serpentine movements in the water in #3. That's very unique and cool!
