p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Sony a7s

My 5d MIII (I had bought from this site two years ago)+ 24-70 MKII & Sony RX1R was stolen two weeks ago in Barcelona. Right now I am pretty much without even a point shoot as my brand new RX100 MIII took a dip in Caribbean waters two months ago. AMEX card insurance re-imbursed me for that but I can't bring myself to buy a camera at least yet. All I have left is my Canon 70-200 MKII and a old Nikon point & shoot.

I had bought RX1R here a month before I left for Spain as its compact size among other things appealed to me. I am looking at replacement possibilities for my 5D MIII & I must say a7s is rather appealing when it comes to camera body size. I've spent this past weekend reading about on Sony a7s.

I haven't come across a review or something that talks about using a7s for sports & action photography (kids, pets etc). I am team photographer for both my kids futbol teams so it is important for me to have that in a camera. Can someone with first hand knowledge comment on a7s as a camera for such photography assuming Sony E and FE lens are used.

I am not trying to start a brand war just want to get some input based on real world usage.

I'm currently shooting with a couple of Nikon d7100's and comtemplating buying a d750. But I've also been looking at the Sony cameras and will be interested in the responses you receive.

These are two of the most vague "I haven't stepped into the Alt Forum/read any posts here in the past 3 months" posts....

Cliffnotes- A7S is better than any game in town for low light. Very good for video. With FE lenses it is awesome, but does not have continuous AF that will compete with most DSLRs.
The biggest detractors (if you would call them that) most people would have with an A7S, outside of cost:
1) 12mp.
2) AF-C.
3) Battery life. The A7 cameras are nowhere near competitive with DSLRs.
4) Native lens selection.

keep it short, A7s for action/sport? NO.

A7 with Sony FE 70-200mm f/4.0 G OSS for sport: YES.
