Identify what tools are required to achieve your photographic objectives. Acquire those tools. Maintain, replace, and even expand your tool selection as necessary. Done.
There will always be new products that are better in one way or another than what you already have. They may be smaller, faster, higher quality, more reliable, less expensive, etc. But that doesn't mean they'll meet your particular needs any better. You'll be a constant victim of marketing and crowd mentality until you come to define your own needs (and desires) so that you can judge how well a product will affect you.
If spending money is your problem, you can hire me to analyze your gear and tell you why it's the best for your particular situation. I'll do that for a flat fee of $500. (To be fair, that'll mostly me be telling you that the gear you already own is a heck of a lot cheaper than the gear you could acquire.) Alternatively, you can hire me to provide a weekly counter-marketing message. For only $20 per week, I'll create a custom message that emphasizes the strengths of your current kit against the latest and greatest gear that's being discussed in these forums. That way, you can exercise your GAS with the gear you already own. :-)
Or, you know, give your dollars to your local Habitat for Humanity. Build a house with them. Or take a puppy home from the local shelter. It's good for the soul, or at least better than eBay.
Cheers,
Jon
