Been doing it for a few years. Best thing is that back pain went away from not sitting all the time. I have a drafting chair that I alternate back and forth leaning on. It's pretty sweet, sometimes I do sit in the drafting chair first thing in the morning while I have coffee (and check FM and Facebook).
As for a station, I built this piece of crap from scraps in my dads shop. The only thing I paid for was the plywood top. Originally the tower was supposed to go on the left, and I had 2 displays, but I got rid of the 2nd display because I found myself using it as a TV (AKA a distraction). The biggest thing was that my elbows were at 90 degrees when typing, and the center of the display was at eye level so my neck wasn't always cranked up or down.
My wife and I are looking to a buy a home in the next few months, one I have a more permeant office, I have a design for something really great that I'll share with you guys once it's built.
Edit: Pardon the mess, that's my life.
