I like the focal length but I never use it. I much prefer a more dramatic look from a wide or long lens. I really like 35mm, 20mm, 16mm, 85mm, 135mm, 200mm.
I was using it so much that I forced myself to get used to the S35 Art when I picked it up and stopped using the 50 completely. Now that I've fully embraced the S35 I might start using the S50 Art that I picked up at the same time.
Since January, I can distinctly remember the 4 times I've used my 50mm 1.4G.
There was a time a few years ago where the 50mm is all I used.
It's fairly ironic as my main film camera is my Rolleiflex T, and the 80mm medium format focal length is a 50mm equivalent. But for me, square format > focal length.
I now have 3 50mm lenses and it is my least used FL.
Lately I have been forcing myself to use the 50mm FL more and have been doing so especially on my D3 and F100. It makes a great portrait lens and I can get in a little closer instead of having to be further away with the 85.
I am going to be doing a 50mm shootout soon with my 50 1.8G, 50mm F2 planar, and 50mm f1.4 e46 Summilux. I will report findings about each lens.
Ever since I got the new Sigma 50mm, I have been using my 50 quite a bit more. I still tend to the 35/85 combo for most of the day, but the 16-35 or 24/50 combo has been seeing a lot more action...especially during prep time

I Love it for my portraits, its my go to. I just did a three day mini fall family sessions in a field across from my house and used it all three days.
