Does anyone know if Nikon replaces the shutter, does the shutter count in camera get reset to 0? I just had a new shutter installed in my D3 and it is showing 183000 shots through it.

I would hope not. I feel its similar to getting a new engine in a car. They don't put the miles at zero when a new engine is put in. The rest of the camera has still had a ton of use and if the shutter count was reset this could be misleading. Yes the shutter like an engine is the main component but you still want to know the overall use of the camera.

I would keep the receipt for the service and hopefully nikon made note of the shutter count when the shutter was replaced so you can give this info at time of sale. I am sure it would increase the value of the camera.

I have seen reports both ways. Sometimes they do, sometimes they don't. It is not consistent....

They don't reset it. I've never heard of them doing it.

I had the shutter replaced on my D600 and it didn't change the shutter count. It did however change the file number back to 0.

No I don't not believe so. Its just like getting a new engine for a vehicle, the odometer remains the same, but the engine is brand new.

I"m sure this would cause crazy havoc on the used market if they did this.

I'd suspect it depends on exactly what got replaced.

Only the shutter? Definitely no reset.
System board too? Reset as they're not going going to reload firmware counts from the old board.

I agree. I sent my d7k in for service on the AF. It apparently had other major problems because they replaced some major parts. The shutter count was reset to zero.

Whether or not that would apply to a shutter replacement, I don't know. Sorry.

Not for just a shutter replacement, I speak from experience.

Agree - if the electronics that hold the shutter count are replaced for some reason, the shutter count remains. My guess is anyone reporting different is confusing it with the folder.

I had the shutter replaced in my D3 at 135,000 clicks and they did not reset the shutter count. I emailed Nikon Service to confirm and they sent me an email that said that they do not reset the shutter to zero when they replace the shutter. Some people say that theirs have been reset to zero when the shutter has been replaced. Very inconsistent from Nikon Service.

Years ago my D300 shutter failed at less than 25,000 actuations . When I got back it was reset to 0.
