WOW, Scott. a super image.
angle - I would not touch it. there is a tad bit more black on the top left then is ideal (my eyes). but so what.
a great scene and your composition captures the mood well.
color solar is not in my area of 'expertise', but this certainly pops, without distracting from all of your great work.
small pic - I hate signatures, so this - I think - distracts from the color balance here.
I don't know what a conversion to BW would do??
great work - keep it up.
regards, tom

Tom,
Thanks for bopping over. My apologies for color solar, but you are the Solar King!
I agree with the large black expanse.
I will see what I can cook up in BW and share.

Love the processing, works very well with the image. I think you could try cropping a little more in the left side eliminating a touch more of the black and placing more emphasis squarely ( pun intended ) on the scarecrow and scare chicken.

I feel like I'm in the minority here because I don't really "get" the shot.

Can you shed some light on what's going on here, Scott?

Thanks!

Not at all sure you are in the minority, Jeff. Tons of views and only a few comments.
Are you saying the image is confusing? Or not to taste?

As part of my own critique, I think it may be a bit confusing and I think the scarecrow's facial features are not well-defined. As to the crazy put together creature, it is an entry into a scarecrow competition and the face is supposed to be somewhat chicken-like. The processing goal was to be over-the-top, odd, engaging. Guess I am also fine with a "What the f...k?" reaction.

Welcome more more of your reaction (and others')

I'm just thrown for a loop!

Is this a shot from right under the scarecrow?

Why is the background completely black

Some of the edges look like they've been pasted into the image.

Got my brain all kinds of mixed up here, ha.

Definitely an abstract shot!

Shot from low, looking up, wide angle
Solarization filter in Nik Color Efex Pro.
The filter took out much of the nondescript background. I cloned out a few lines of twigs.
The pasted edges look is a common aspect of this solarization effect which tends to highlight edges, sometimes making them buzzy/glowing, sometimes sharper and seems to change the dimensionality of edges in various, often hard to control ways.
I do like inducing the brain mixed up feeling. Good for a photo (in my mind). Good for business (I am a psychiatrist)

Gotcha - things are starting to click.

Now that we've got that out of the way, how much room do you have to the right and top of the shot? Not sure how I feel about his "crown" being cropped as-is, however I do like how the grains are pointed downwards bringing attention back to the subject.

Now that I see him "looking" and "pointing" out to the right, I really am curious as to what he's seeing. Maybe a little negative space (if available) to the right could add to this.

Pretty wild shot.

Too challenging for me to readily recognize what it really is or is supposed to be without the backstory. Even after study, I'm still left not seeing it as being very recognizable @ busy or something.

BW at Tom's request. Includes a bit of a crop to reduce the black sky expanse upper left image

It's one of those scratch my head images. I know what it is and have a fair idea how you make it, but it's one of those that makes and ponder what my reaction might be. Can't say much until I figure out, aesthetically. Still pondering....

Obviously not a thing of beauty, and a style I don't get. What I do see and appreciate is a showcase for your photographic skills.
