Hi currently I own the 16-35 f4 Lens but wonder if I can get a better lens for landscape.

Which focal length it's better? since I was looking in zeiss ones.

Landscape? Nikon 24mm PC-E. I don't think Sony has one.

Yep Im not worry about compatibility if choose sony I'll use an adapter and always use the lens for landscape in manual so also doesn't bother me. I like the 24 but isnt to much wide. I was liking the new 21mm or even the zeiss one but are more expensive. What do you think?

Canon has a superb 17mm t/s. I almost switched to Canon when that came out.

Canon seems to have the edge in the tilt shift department right now. I wish nikon would keep up in this regard.

Have you considered a mid to long telephoto? I think these are overlooked but some of the "classic" landscape views were captured on this range of lens. Just a thought.

I would look at your favourites shots from the 16-35 and see what focal length you typically use for them. Then you are looking for a lens around that focal length that will perform for the high resolution sensor.

Many swear by the Zeiss 21mm 2.8 but I think the Zeiss 25mm f2 has higher performance on the D800e. If you want to go wider, the Samyang 14mm 2.8 is cheap enough you could get that as well.

DXOMark ran some tests specifically for D800E and landscape lenses. That data plus reviews and looking at flickr pools will help you decide.

Thanks all. Later I'll post some pics as soon I get home.

Tom I want also later like a 24-70 for those shots but since my most shots I made are less than 24 I'll prefer to go first with the wide angle. I like the 16-35 but the distortion it's heavy and the 14-24 it's huge and the filter system it's very expensive.

Here few shots I made since 2012 which I start shooting. The first and the B/W was shot with the 16-35 at 16mm. The second one was shot with the 24-85 kits lens of the d600 and the last one was shot with the 28mm 1.8g.

I see nothing in those pictures that would dictate one "must have" lens over another.

Plenty of people use the 14-24mm, 16-35mm VR f/4, 18-35mm, 10-24mm on crop.... 21mm Zeiss..

And, as mentioned above the tilt-shift lenses of 24mm, 45mm, and even 85mm

Focal length doesn't dictate whether a lens is a landscape lens. A landscape can be taken with any focal length... (Although it's true that most people refer to UWA lenses as "landscape" lenses).

As far as the 14-24mm lens. It's always in my pack. The size & weight is not really much of a deterrent. It's just what it is and you carry it. Water weighs a lot more.

This is a lot more photographer dependent than lens dependent. A skilled photographer has no problem with Nikon PC-E lenses when it comes to the final image (except at 17mm).

+1000

I use everything from a 16mm fish to a 400mm tele for my landscapes. The landscape is there - the photographer just uses the best focal length to capture the image they want.

If you want the best in the wide category, the 14-24. If you're on a budget consider the older 20mm 2.8d or the new 20 1.8. For a great short landscape telephoto the 85 1.4g.

My favorite landscape lens is a 24mm focal length in 35mm terms. I also like a telephoto in the 150-200mm range to compress the elements or pick out objects in a scene. A 24mm PC lens would be killer, but not hugely necessary.

To best answer your original question, what are you desiring in a lens that the 16-35 isn't doing for you?

Do you have lenses that cover focal lengths all the way from 14-400mm? Do you know what focal lengths you enjoy shooting at most?

The 16-35 is a fine lens and there are some remarkable images that have been made with it. There's a lot it can do and a lot it can't do.
