Great photos, Tony.

I hope it's smaller coming out, than it is coming in.

Great shots, Chris. Feels great shooting at 600mm without spending $6,000 or lugging around a ton, eh?

Nice shots all the way around-
Tony your starting to convince me that this lens should be my next lens purchase rather than a landscape lens.

Thanks, Wayne. Works okay for me for the occasional landscape shot that I take.

Yes Tony, shooting with the Tamron has been a pleasure. Images are crystal sharp, with superb clarity and definition! And even though the zoom turns "like a Nikon", I'm getting used it

Chris
Is that first one a red crested, yellow eyed, ground scratching vireo ?
Nice detail.

Steve -

My suspicion is that it's a possible future participant of some illegal cock-fighting activity which was released into a local state park after it's owner got wind of a possible raid...

Some shots of a while ago, a couple of swans.

All with the Canon 7D as the camera body, still getting to grabs with the massive focal length available and the needed shutter-speeds:

f6.3 @ 600mm, 1/1000th, ISO 3200:
Swans - Hasan Karagülmez - HSK_2328

f6.3 @ 600mm, 1/1000th, ISO 640:
Swans - Hasan Karagülmez - HSK_2312

f6.3 @ 375mm, 1/500th, ISO 500:
Swans - Hasan Karagülmez - HSK_2320

f6.3 @ 450mm, 1/640th, ISO 2000:
Swans - Hasan Karagülmez - HSK_2322

These and a couple more are all available as larger sizes (1920 max-side size) on Flickr: https://www.flickr.com/photos/17316292@N00/sets/72157648628674501/

I'm happy overall with this lens as well, sharpness and autofocus seems pretty good to me in combination with the Canon 7D

I've used it on a dogshow as well, where there were some running dogs and it seems to track well - I'll post some up when I get round to editting them.

Tony,

I haven't followed your postings faithfully so please forgive me if this is a repeat question. I remember early on that you were vehement in your listing of the Tamron's failings. Yet, I'm now seeing truly nice stuff from you with this lens. Given that the odds of my owning a Canon 600mm f/4.0 approach zero, I'm vitally interested in this lens mostly for distant bird and wild life. Did you get a replacement? Was there a fix? What made you change your mind?

Thanks,

Robet

Robert,

Come on, get up to speed. The first two copies were faulty, thanks to Tamron putting them out without proper testing on most Canon bodies. My third copy is from the latest ones now being sold and Tamron has fixed the problem. AF speed and accuracy not up to Canon 500mm or 600mm, but what do you expect at a fraction of the cost.

Can produce some pretty sharp images at 600mm though:

All shots were handheld with IS turned on.

Impressive, especially 600mm at such a slow shutter speed (the first two).

Ah, every time I get up to speed something falls off Thanks for clarifying. I thought that was what happened but wanted to make sure. I'm now in suspended animation between the Tamron and Sigma's announced competitor. Got to agree with you though, really nice stuff thru this lens (though of course the eye behind the lens is the most important part.)

Well the Sigma Sports model would have to be a LOT better for me to consider spending nearly $1,000 more than the Tamron and hauling around an extra two pounds for handheld shooting. The Sigma Contemporary model could be competition at near same price and weight if it matches the Tamron quality.

Not for me to find out though.
