Hi All,

Just to set the record straight. I always have all of my lenses calibrated by Nikon Professional Services at least once a year ad especially when I purchase a new one.

Just for your information, this whole ELLE Magazine and Cover shoot were done with the Nikon 24-120mm f/4G ED VR AF-S NIKKOR Lens. I am sure that the Sigma 24-105 f/4.0 is good, but I found the extra 15mm in the studio allowed me to reduce the sides of the seamless paper and gave me that nice compression I was looking for when needed. All shot in the Nikon D800 5:4 crop mode which replicates most magazine formats, thus allowing me to see what the image will look like in the magazine in the viewfinder. I love that option on the D800. It is one of the reasons I opted to go for it over the D600/610.

Nonetheless if you have your Nikon 24-120 calibrated, it will perform admirably well.

Do you have the lenses calibrated to your Nikon bodies in tandem (making, in effect, a matched set) or just calibrated in general? I've used the former method with good success.

Very nice mate...I've been thinking about adding this lens for studio work as well (my work is nearly as good as your...Not ).

Currently the 70-200mm is my main studio lens but sometimes i get squeezed for room and switch to the 24-70mm or get lazy and change the shot with the 70-200.

Should have grabbed it when it was on special a couple of months back...maybe soon.

Thanks. It's a bit of a chore packing everything off to Nikon but the results are worth it.

Nice work, BTW. Outstanding, really.

Was that shot with the D800 or D800e? There's a bit of moire in there - to my eyes and wondered if you are using the non 'e'. Not that it matters much, lovely photo

There is no moiré. That is just the two materials overlapping. That is how it looks to the eye.

I used the normal Nikon D800.

this is probably shot at f8-f16, right? no surprise the 24-120 performs wonderfully there, but I was a bit disappointed with the f4 performance when I tried it. sending it to Nikon with a body is just for AF calibration, right?

yep, the 24-120/4 is an excellent FF lens pretty much across the board. been using it with multiple bodies over the years and really haven't needed to cal it to any of them. but then i shoot under somewhat less controlled conditions and generally bad lighting . also i think its obvious i don't do work for ELLE. this one sews her own "Haute Couture".
D3, D700, D4, D610, D4s and D810. even does a grand job on a D7000.

i much prefer the darker haired lovelies. the harsh sodium vapor lamps bring out those skin tones so "interestingly"

not quite f4
