Well. After all the praises for gaffer tape I have a new one.

While unstopping a bathroom drain at my Mom and Dad's house, I knocked a small round plastic makeup container off the counter into the sink and it was the perfect size to fit inside the hole and drop down the drain where it lodged about 1-1/2" from the top of the drain outlet! What to do?

I got a piece of gaffer tape. Wrapped it around the end of a long brass letter opener; lowered it down the drain and "stuck" the container and pulled it out. Who'd a thought. Gaffer Tape saved another day!

What makes a pro is not the expensive equipment, it's the roll of gaffer in the bag...

You can't go 12 ft around my place without being able to put your hand on it.
I have rolls of it in the car, the workshop, throughout the house. I have it in the holiday house and even have rolls of it at my fathers place I have taken and purposefull left there.

Every time I go somewhere that has some I buy a roll or 3. I actually buy it faster than I use it but that's OK, long as I don't run out.

Tomorrow I am going to try some on a Black tape glamour shoot. Not exactly gaffer tape, more like Duct tape to be precise but close enough.

I once used nearly an entire roll of gaffer tape to mount a 15 lb camera to the bow of a speedboat. Worked like a boss.

So this is why I'm languishing in the lower leagues. I've been carrying electric tape this whole time!

I want to rig up a gaffer tape dispensing vest that I will make my assistants wear when they work with me. They will basically be mobile tape stations.

Together we will fix the world....

Yeah, I used gaffer tape to fix my seamless to the hardwood floors in my studio.
Still trying to get the residu off. I've been a bit more careful since...

Real gaffer tape leaves no residue! I suspect you were using duct tape.

I purchased my roll of "gaffer tape" at a photography store and it leaves residue. I was wanting a roll and I waited until I could get to a reputable retailer to purchase it - was surprised at the residue.

I buy my gaffer tape at music store so I look cooler when I come in.

P.S. I cannot play ANY instruments.

I had a piece of gaffers tape on one of my lenses to make sure that the mf/af switch didn't get budged. I took it off the other day and there was just the tiniest bit of residue on it from the gaffers tape. It was easily removed.

But that tape had been on those lenses for 3 years - in 110 degree weather, -30 degree weather, rain, wind, snow, mud.

Good gaffers tape shouldn't leave residue most of the time.

Yeah, gaffer tape that's been on a while will leave residue. How long was yours on?

Shorter term it doesn't leave a residue.

Should have known I suppose.

Gaffer tape has saved my lightstand from falling (and my speedlight from breaking) at least 3-5 times. I would come back to my lightstand with the gaffed tape all messed up but it did its job of keeping it upright.

No joke, somebody actually knocked my lightstand onto Grandma on Saturday. Luckily it just fell onto her lap slowly...

I've tried gaffer taping my light stands to the floor but it just didn't seem to hold that well so I switched to using sand bags to hold the lights down.

Gaffer taping lightstands up is a good idea!

If I hadn't switched to using clamps almost exclusively for my reception lighting

I love gaffer tape and use it for something most sessions. Careful if you're ever in China and decide to mount something to a wall with it. Their paint tends to come off a lot easier over there!
