p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · BIF with 5D III

First, I would like to apologize for a long post.
Normally I shooting bird with my trusted 1D IV. This is the time I want to test
my 5D III with 300mm F2.8 II. Due to the lighter weight of the body, it is very easy to
handheld without sweating.
I love the simplicity of 1DIV whereas the AF of 5D III has so many cases which I don't get use to yet.
Following are all the shot in 2 hours outing after work and it looks pretty good so far in term of locking
focus. IMHO, I still love the 1D IV body and its responsiveness. However, 5D III is pretty good if I
want to travel light. I properly have to shoot more BIF with 5D III to get familiar with it.
Next thing is that I will find time to shoot with 500 and 500 + TC on 5D III for BIF to see the result myself

Hope this long post doesn't bore you guys.

1. The outer point focus works quite well with this combo when following the GBH

These are great shots. I like too many of these to list them all.

Did you really get all of these using a 300 mm on a full-frame camera? That's great. I am guessing these were shot at Shoreline Lake in Mountain View.

Thanks Nancy. These are taken with 300 F2.8 II and 5D3 in Shoreline Mountain View last week.

Thanks Tim. I love this combo since it is light and I can carry around to shoot after work if I know the bird in good distance. I have 1.4x and 2X but haven't tried it yet. I will test it out.

Hi Tam, I must compliment you on the choice of your cam body. Gee I wonder why? I know, because I use the same body...

great shots, it appears that the subjects were quite close to you.

Geez. My 5DIII didn't come pre-loaded with images of this quality! Lovely set Tam. You have two really good options for bodies. And you make the most of both.

Great work, Tam. Looks like the 5D3 shoots like a pro in your hands. I find it a very capable wildlife body as back up to, or when I don't feel like carrying, the 1D.

Amazing you could get close enough to shoot all these at 300mm. Great stuff!

Outstanding set, as usual

Wonderful shots that prove the 5D3 is a viable birding body in the right hands. You do give up reach and a few frames per second but the focusing may just make up for it.
I often carry my 1D_ and 5d3 and have no qualms about switching back and forth so I don't have to change lenses.
