Myself included many will be extremely pleased with the Tam 150-600 in my opinion. Strong but light weight, long but easily zoomable and quiet focussing although a bit slow to acquire initial focus in both harsh and failing light and a great VC option.

What I don't like however is the bokeh may be because of the slow f/stop at 6.3 ? It runs through f/5 - f/5.x till you hit 415mm and then it is f/6.3 till the end.

But I find that this is a good companion for small birds rather than BIF though capable hands and skilled can use anything

I've seen much worse Bokeh. The second is a very nice photo Sritri. f4 at 400mm is better than the higher priced 100-400 IS and 80-400 VR which are at f5.6 at 400mm

I made a typo which I fixed Morris. It is f/5 - f/6.3

These all have very nice detail Shreeni. Having shot the 400 F5.6 for years, the bokeh does not bother me ~ Ron

Shreeni, you may also look at the bokeh at f/8.................it may look more pleasing. Some types of BG's just don't produce a nice bokeh either. I think the worst bokeh of the lenses I have shot may have been shot with the Canon 100-400 with a TC on hot humid day on some shore birds..........it wasn't pretty!

Remember the closer you get to your subject the less DOF you will have and the more pleasing the BG becomes in most instances

The last shot is my fave Shreeni. I agree with Karl. My 400 f5.6 gives fine bokeh in the right situations. As a photog, I need to pick my spots.

I swear I must be bokeh-blind. These look fine to me. Nice captures!

This lens as the Bigmos are mostly f/8 units. Almost no other way around it. Those examples would have been much sharper and clearer at f/8. When I use the Bigmos I just lock it at f/8, just dont bother with any other aperture. Now the 400mm f/5.6 is sharp almost at every aperture loosing some at 5.6 but improves a lot at 6.3.
