A number of FMers have posted stunning and enviable scenes of the Milky Way.

Thus, I went up to Glacier Point in late July during the new moon hoping to capture one myself.

Alas, high clouds and a bit of back-country smoke from small lightning fires detracted from a crisp, clear sky. As a result the Milky Way was nondescript and did not make for the scene I wanted.

So, I tried to make a "silk purse out of a sow's ear" and managed a pleasing sunset, even without any dramatic light hitting the face of Half Dome. Added a small saturation boost and a little dodging of shadows.

Beautiful. I love the colors. Just the right amount of darker mood, but still being able to see the details.

Very nice indeed. I will be there next week and hope to do half as well. Looks like this is a sunset location.

Yes, Ben, sunset is the more appealing time. This view is looking nearly due East, thus very bright back light at sunrise, though some striking "sun stars" have been shot coming over the mountains at that time.

Nice "plan B" effort!

Love the sky, overall POV scene

Vision is a good thing but being able to work with what nature gives you is better
