GoPro3 is a bit outdated...
Is there a better/newer alternative perhaps? I am more interested in specs that are related to photography as I don't take too many videos.
Looking for a small camera under 200gr.

There are a couple competitors ( I can't remember who) but GoPro has created the market that they are the leader in. Rumor that GP4 is due before xmas.

What are you looking for that GP3+ doesnt offer?

How about a Canon ELPH 330 or S100? I'm not sure what you're looking for - what would you consider a photography oriented GoPro?

The sensor is a bit old... lens isn't that great and picture quality isn't very good. No lcd so you can preview isn't a bonus either. I just believe they can do much much better!

I am looking to see some reviews. I can't see it as being the top runner as the specs aren't the greatest. I doubt it will be taking good quality pictures. Very good price though.

I need something small for snowboarding, diving and general snaps. A lot of these are geared more towards video than photography

I think something like the Olympus TG-3 is what you're looking for.

Cheers,
Jon

Unfortunately I've already looked into it and it's a bit too heavy. I am after something smaller than 200gr. Hopefully around 150gr.

I've found the Sony TX series to be actually surprisingly good small folded lenses. Just don't try to use it a lot for dive videos or something like that.

There really isn't anything in the sub 200g, dive/snowboard capable category that takes really great stills. I think what comes out of a gopro looks really good, but I'm not expecting d800 output from a $300 camera I can strap to anything and get a decent image, shoot video, timelapses and so on. It's a fisheye, its pretty sharp, and it can basically go where no other camera in its price range can. Unfortunately all the action cams are geared toward video.

Yep, I did and I would have bought it,if it had time lapse for photos. I found photo quality is better than the GoPro 3 Their decision to make it time-lapse with video-only output is pretty stupid. Emailed them. Got a response that they have no intention of changing it at the moment.
This is a good example of what happens when a company who doesn't know anything about photography tries to create a camera...
