p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Question on replacement rubber eye piece for D7100

Is there a replacement eye piece (for the D7100) available which has a built-in shade something like the one for D800? The way the current shade works for long exposures is really a pain especially if you are working in the dark.

Thank you,
Maji

Not that I know of.

You can put a much nicer eye cup on it though, if you prefer these kind:

+1 on this upgrade/modification. I did this recently and tried it out at a recent wedding. Really helps to block out the stray light. Gives a more "immersed" viewfinder experience.

*edit* Just re-read the OP. I guess this doesn't really help to shade light from coming into the viewfinder during long exposures though.

Thank you guys. I wish there was a better method than what Nikon is offering. It is just a pain to go thru the process in the dark, not to mention the chances of dropping it and losing either one of the two.

I've always wondered why people do that instead of just buying the Nikon EC-3?

It's $30 cheaper

That looks even easier - I am not sure if it's exactly the same, but it looks like it is.

Thank you Jason. It is a nice eye cup but I wish it had a shade built into it.

I use hoodman for my D600 and I love it. It's only $20

Thank you MDOC, but that hoodman item does not have a "shutter". I will still need to remove it and install the cover before a long exposure. I am trying to find an integrated eye cup and cover.

I just put a piece of black electric tape over it when I shoot long exposures. Easy peasy

Thank you for the suggestion Ray. I will try that next time. Now I have to remember to put that little piece of tape with the eye piece

I shoot at night a lot, and have a D7100. My solution is to just put my hat over it. That keeps the snow off too.
