Thanks all for the helpful comments as I'm determined to get it right.
I have posted an new image in the OP.
This was my first real outing with the Sony A7r & my 1st bracket sequences were "not the best". Also did the "thumb over sun" to take care of flare, etc.
Then end result was that I picked the underexposed set.
Which is why I shouldn't process & post from the road using my netbook
Enough for the excuses!
I have chosen a different bracket set w/lower noise & reblended for the sun.
I also did a light noise reduction w/Topaz, which is tricky with the canyon walls texture
I think the colors are right, but its a warm/cold scene so if you see something glaring, let me know.
Dustin/Sasha, you were right, it was noisy.
Sasha, not sure about the CA but will look at it more closely. I wouldn't have expected CA with my 24-105, but with a strongly back lit scene it's possible
Jim, to your point about the foreground. This shot does have a bit more showing.
Yes, I have a 14mm but the rocks were TOO dominate with the few I took.
Cropping off a 14 shot would still leave a stretched POV.
I probably should have used something in the 16-20mm range.
I think a 17 would have been just right.
Thanks again.
