p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Black and White Pockets

There were so many great pictures of the area on this forum that I could not resist going there as soon as I got a chance. The place is absolutely mind-blowing.
Forecast was saying "clear", but it stayed very cloudy all day, so pictures are perfect candidates for B&W conversion.

C&C very welcome

Sasha

Aw heck yeah! Some truly wonderful images here. The only one that doesn't do much for me is #4 ... just feels a bit truncated on top for me. The first image is head and shoulders above the rest, too. The composition is just perfect. You can tell that you made some conscious decisions about the placement of every edge and line. The frame is completely filled, but it doesn't feel cramped at all. The reflection of the tree really adds some special interest. The processing is wonderful too, a nice high key feel without too much contrast. Nice!

Very nice series. No water there when I went last April, so those are my favorites.

Thank you! I had to balance on one leg pressing my back against the rock to get the reflection I was after, so really glad it paid off

Chris, thank you!
To me, #4 looks like a part of some organic life form - that is why it is here. Each rock is unique, and each resembles something, like the second is an illustration to the math chapter on hyperbolic function. Crazy place...

Stan, thanks! It rained a week prior to my visit, so there were lots of water pockets. So probably coming within one week of generous soak is a good idea - roads are dry but water is still preserved.

This is some excellent work, Sasha. I love #1 also for the peaceful setting with unlikely tree replicated in the mirror -like water. Lucky for you to have water! Your reference to the mathematic reference for #2 tickles my fancy.

#4 is a conundrum. Yes, conscious truncated forms! But, I'm not sure why. I'm left with a sense I don't understand the intent.

Overall series is wonderful. You offered no EXIF, but I'm curious to learn about focal length and aperture, even camera body & lens if you feel inclined.

Sasha,
Really interesting set of images, but #1 is really outstanding it works so well as a b/w image. Your composition as well as the processing on this are fantastic. I have seen a lot of your images over the last few years and I think this is one of your best ! Regards,
Dean

Thank you for the detailed response and analysis Really appreciate that.
All of these are "calculated' compositions. Maybe not with the formula, but with intention to emphasize one or the other feature. #4 looks like organic form to me. It looks like a giant body part.

I will add EXIF, although there was nothing special
