I am excited - this price drop should only take about two years to filter through to Thailand.

Exactly.

I'd drop the coin on the Nikon and the adapter. Does aperture still function?

Yeah the good adapters like Novoflex allow you to change aperture.

I'll bet Sigma does a 14 f/2.8 Art series one day for about $1K or less.

No one needs a chart to know a $ 12 K lens is overpriced !

Dang! They didn't drop the price for the 16-35mm f/4.0 IS lens . It is too new, I guess and it is selling well .

I'm sure half of FM looked straight for this rebate. Will probably still pick up the lens this week though. I can't wait 4-5 months to save $200.

Looks like Canadian prices have not been adjusted. It also looks like the days of bargain big white super-tele prices from Canada are long gone. The Canon list price of the 600 II is now $14,290 cdn. It was $12,600 cdn.

Canadian prices were all raised a few months ago at least on the big lenses. We used to have such good prices, now with the new US prices we are back to terrible prices. I wonder if the CPS prices have gone up also, the 600II was at $10,700 before the retail price hikes. Glad I got all my GAS out of the way while prices were good

Yeah - you don't need a weatherman to know which the wind blows.

The price drops look like a Customer Lock-In attempt to me. By definition, make the cost to switch vendor/supplier too cost-prohibitive as a means to lock-in one's customer/user base. A rather SOP practice if you've got nothing else or new to offer your subs or base.

Bodes for a poor showing with the 7D2 sensor at Photokina and the rumored early-2015 refreshes with the rumored 5D4 and 1DX2 by my reckoning.

We'll see.

Yes I fear you may be right. It may just be an attempt to keep folks from jumping to the Nikon/Sony camp. Those of us invested in the lenses listed just took a big hit if we want to sell on the used market

Just realised the 200-400 isn't receiving a cut. Needs $2K shaved off the price to make sense.

It's all supply and demand determining the price. If the amount of 200-400's they project to sell don't happen in the future, it'll come down in price. So far it's too new and unique, and you have folks offsetting the cost with the sale of a big white or two, which makes the overall price easier to swallow.

In most ways us consumers determine price reductions.

Yep, that thing is not coming down in price for a long time. Not until some other company decides to challenge it and I don't see that happening anytime soon.

Timing is everything Geoff. I postponed my 600 II and thought nothing of it. Now, I'm going to have to re-look at everything. I hope these price decreases see their way north of the 49th.

I got my 500II for 8949$ CDN brand new from Royal photo in Quebec. That's a whole lot cheaper than anything in the USA. This was not CPS price either.

It may be worth giving them a call for one of the big white primes!

edit: Looks their prices went up!

… Just got ready to get a half dozen of some of Canon’s best … then I see they didn’t drop the price … they only reduced it …

Some days it just doesn’t pay to chew through the restraints …

having tried various options on canon, including the venerable Nikon 14-24 2.8, I would say unless you are shooting nightscapes, the lens of choice is canon 16-35 f4 IS lens.
I do wholeheartedly agree that canon 14 2.8 is about the most grossly overprice canon lens, esp given alternatives. However, I would look to samyang 14 (I have tested them side by side), if you want 14 2.8. The samyang is sharper in the corners at 2.8, , has far less flare, has far less CA. I has more distortion, but Ironically a lot easier to correct as there are ACR profile for it. And of course there is always a question of variablity which is introduced by use of an adapter.

It already has albeit most L optics aren't in stock. However the 24-70 4L refurb is in stock at $800.

Cheers. It was more a snide comment on how torpid Thai websites are - virtually never updated. And such price reductions will trickle down slowly here - they will try and maintain older pricing for as long as possible. It's a different world here.
