Perhaps there was a prayer before the kill as well. Nothing better than an answered prayer. Wonderful shots, Eric.

Excellent set Eric. The second is, I assume, one of the series you previously posted. First image is quite nice.

Yes, but it was my prayer and thankfully it was answered...I'm not beloved by the impala community though

Thanks Ken, and yes it's one of the "lost files" from that encounter (not lost just never processed)

Thanks BB...no, this is another lovely lady...I've been lucky to photographic her twice in 2 years, once with her cub (although I never got a shot of the two together)

Yeah, #1 is an excellent close-up profile of this gorgeous big cat... and #2 is another good look at the daily life and death cycle in nature.
Really good stuff Eric.

Thanks Kirk....she is sort of Mata Hari of the cat world...beautiful but at the same time a cold blooded killer

Thanks Tom, everything was looking up on that one ...the second was just the natural progression...."if looks could kill"

The first is a beauty and the second looks like a very "clean" kill.
Thrilling wildlife images, Eric.

Thanks Ron...kills and feeding do not make great images in most cases....that is why I am very selective in the ones I post

You are so correct about the clean kill...we were at the point of attack within 15 seconds and the impala ram was already down and almost out. I suspect the cat got it from behind and quickly closed off the neck arteries...eventually it shifted position slightly to finish off the impala by shutting off its wind pipe. There was essentially no noise and very little struggle.
