Good try, Paul. Takes a bit of patience. Two suggestions about this image.

1. Think it would be better if you would clone out that tiny bit of thistle at the very bottom.

2. Here's a little trick if you have Photoshop:
a. Create a copy of current layer.
b. Hold down Ctrl + Alt key and press the number 2 key. (this will select highlighted areas of image).
c. Create another layer of selected area.
d. In the blending options list, choose 'Multiply', rather than 'Normal'.
e. Adjust opacity level of new layer to your taste.
See if you like the results. It will cause the highlighted areas to deepen, and diminish the brightness somewhat. In this image, it should give it a much richer tone quality.

Ed

I apologize for the leaving out step 'c'. It has now been revised.

Actually, I just downloaded to play and discovered that Paul saved the photo as aRGB.

Paul, color space is very important. Many people recommend setting your camera for aRGB (Adobe RGB) as it is a larger color space than sRGB which is the standard and what our web browsers assume is the color space of a photo. As you use photoshop, what you want to do is:

/file /save for web
On the right side, there is a check box "Convert to sRGB" and you want to select it.

Look at the dialog box as this will make resizing and saving for web much easier. If you want to work in aRGB then make shore that you are setting the correct color space for printing as well.

Lovely photo, looks great in the correct color space.

Morris

PS, I keep my cameras set for sRGB to avoid colors spaces adventures. Some will disagree with this approach, i feel it makes little difference in the end result.

paul- good capture of butterefly & fly (?). i would have struggled wth the editing as well.

follow up questions for ed & morris (if it ok with paul to use this thread?):

ed - is there an equivalent proces in lightroom?

morris - you recommended adobe color space but then shoot in srgb. not to be disrespectful, but why? i have never used adobe space so don't know of the differences.

If you shoot in raw, color space doesn't matter...you can set it however you want in post.

Sorry, I do not use Lightrooom. Perhaps someone else can jump in.

Ed

Here is an example of using the technique I referenced above.

Nice shot but I wouldn't be hanging around for long if that's a white faced hornet buzzing around, yikes!
