OK, I've been hearing lots of hawk cries in the skies, it must be time for the juveniles to leave home, find mates, and (we can only hope) plunder the local population of rabbits, squirrels and chipmunks.
I hear the same cry several times, quite close, so I step out to look. On top of the utility pole across from my driveway, I see this raptor immensely enjoying what looks like the late Mr. Red Squirrel.
Through the trees, hand-held, this was the only sight angle, so apologies for the clutter, and the cable.
I've looked, and it seems that this might be a rough-legged hawk, but anyone know? This is southeast Michigan.
And these are heavily-cropped, from my 7D and 400 f/5.6, jpegs.
This is some really rich pickings. Mondo buffet territory. I might settle down.
Yum, red squirrel.
Now to clean up, and go tell the babes I've got this great location.
