p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · SONY FE LENS ROADMAP

Interesting to see the possible lenses coming out. I will def pick up the 16-35 when its announced at photokina. If the FE 35 1.4 is as good as the FE 55 i will add that one as well.

According to Thom Hogan (http://www.sansmirror.com/lenses/lens-database/sony-nex-lenses/ ), this is the breakout of the 15 Sony FE lenses to be available by (the end of) 2015:

FE35Z ---- 35mm f/2.8 Zeiss (2013)
FE55Z ----- 55mm f/1.8 Zeiss (2013)
FE2870 ---- 28-70mm OSS (2013)
FE2470Z --- 24-70mm f/4 Zeiss (2013)
FE70200Z --70-200mm f/4 G OSS (2014)
FE1635Z -- 16-35mm f/4 Zeiss OSS (2014) (announced May 1, 2014)
FE85Z ----- 85mm f/1.8 Zeiss OSS (2014)
FE100G ----100mm f/2.8 Macro G (2014)
FE35Z/1.4 - 35mm f/1.4 Zeiss (2014)
FE24Z ---- 24mm f/2 Zeiss (2014)
FE28135G - 28-135mm f/4 G OSS (2015) (announced May 1, 2014)
FE135Z --- 135mm f/2 Zeiss (2015)
FE21Z ----- 21mm f/2.8 Zeiss (2015)
FE35G - 35mm

This is more or less the same list as the one shown on the probably fake roadmap of january 2014, so I guess Hogan hasnīt done his homework:

Three 35s and a couple of 50'ish lenses seems a little odd.

I am looking forward to the 24/2! I am a little disappointed that there is an 85/1.8 and a 100/2.8 Macro. I was hoping to avoid wanting both. I might get the 85, but the 100 probably not. I would just use my existing gear then.

I am a little curious about the lacking distinction between allegedly Zony and pure Zeiss lenses.

These are quite likely real. They have announced a "fast" prime that is Sony/Zeiss and a Sony G macro are coming. It seems not a far leap to an 85 f/1.8 and a 100 f/2.8 macro.

Taking Carsen's (brilliant) pun further, a Zonnilux 35 would be very interesting! The 55 is sharp as a tack, but I really prefer 28 to 35mm for "schlepping about" during my lunch hour.

If, by pure zeiss lenses you mean lenses such as Touits then those do not appear on this roadmap. The Sony lens roadmap only has the "Sony/Zeiss" lenses which are sold and marketed by Sony.

So where are the manual focus Zeiss lenses then?!? Given this roadmap there would appear to be a lot of conflicts/overlap.

hopefully the straight zeiss would fill wide angle prime gaps in this list (eg 18, 28) maybe a slower compact 21/4 too?

I like the overlap. there should be a lot more 35mm, normal, and short telephoto primes than anything else because they are the most popular and many of us have several of each.

I'll believe this list when it is officially announced though.

I love the overlap, since 35 and 50 are my most used lenses over the last decade, but it's the overlap that makes me suspicious of the list, unfortunately.

This is Thom Hogan's prediction, not a roadmap. I don't know why people are still talking about it.

I was at Sony store, and they showed me the roadmap, and confirmed it. I didn't pay attention to all the lenses, as 24/2 piqued my interest, so I can't say if every lens was on the list. But the list they showed me they pulled up from Sony's website.

It makes sense to have the overlap. Other brands have faster and slower versions of the same focal length which drives low and high selling prices as well as weight of the lens. The OSS version makes sense as well for video use.

I hope they do go for overlap, particularly if there's any accuracy to that list.

And if the E mount gets a Z 35/1.4 before the A mount, I know a couple of a99 owners who will planing a protest.

To my knowledge, this was the last road-map that didn't include wishes and dreams.

To me the logical lenses to fill the rest of the road-map for this year are:
A macro prime in the 85-135mm range.
an 85/1.8 is almost a given.
I'd almost bet on a 24mm prime.

The remaining 5 slots:
likely a faster 35.
a 4x zoom starting at 24 or 28 to 350mm or so.
An UWA? 17mm? 21mm? I'd love to see a tilt/shift in this range.
A tele, 135? 200? f2.8 or likely f3.5 (STF would kick butt).
yet another zoom, f2.8 this time? 24-70 +- a few mm

We will know more soon, because the Zeiss MF announcement is imminent, for shipment before year-end. That has made me less inclined to buy the 16-35 before I can get my hands on a Zeiss MF WA.

New FE lenses coming early next year:
24-240mm f/3.5-6.3 OSS (I was quite close to guessing this one)
28mm f/2.0 (surprised it wasn't a 24)
35mm Zeiss f/1.4 (wow this is a big lens, it better be of Otis quality or there will be endless complaining)
90mm f/2.8 macro (as I thought)
16mm Fisheye Converter
21mm Ulta Wide Converter
(These could be popular if their quality is as good as the SEL16's converter lenses.)

Another fast prime next year.... 85? ? ?
I see they bumped their expected number of lenses to 20.

My hope is not in the new lenses, as I am sure they will come in due time. My hope is that Sony will keep the size/weight of the glass within some limits. Looking at the new arrivals, I see huge, heavy glass, which, while may be fast, is way too big for the size of the A7x bodies. I was hoping to see something among the line of EF 55, but all they show seems much larger than that. Maybe only Zeiss will be the one with small fast primes?
