p.2 #1 · p.2 #1 · Restoring the iMac ??? See UPDATE:2

Hi Dean,

What I'm trying to do is verify a bootable system restored from CCC. A few files won't really help here, it's an all-or-nothing sort of scenario if that makes sense. One thing I know is my current external SATA usb3 dock will not boot so I've got to get one that does. 50% of the equation is being able to boot from an external drive, the other 50% is to restore the internal iMac hd from the bootable external.

I see your point, but you can still make a bootable backup (for test purposes) without backing up the entire drive, can't you? It's been a while since I've used CCC, but I do recall the ability to select which folders to include. Should be quick and easy if you have an external USB drive to plug in. Create the backup and before you restart the iMac, select the external drive as the boot drive (see the Startup Disk settings under the System Preferences).

Thanks Dean, I'll look into trying that.
