what i'm asking is in the subject. Is anyone able to achieve high speed sync with a studio type flash (in my case buff einstein) using pocketwizard transceivers?
The Einstein isn't a suitable flash for hypersync unless you're running it at full power. It's an IGBT type flash which means the longest flash duration is at full power and it gets shorter as the power is reduced. With the Einstien at full power I can shoot at 1/2500 and get a clean frame. At -1 stop anything beyond camera sync speed results in a visible shutter curtain.
The larger Alien Bees are somewhat better for hypersync but the most suitable Buff flash is the X3200. These units have their shortest flash duration at full power and it gets longer as you reduce the power. At the strobe end you'll want to use a TT5 or PWIII in HSR mode rather than the AC9.
