They claim that leaks have been clamped down more than ever and yet these sound like bigger leaks to me than they have had in a long time! I don't get why he call these minor details because of many leakers being shut out of the loop this time?

Anyway he claims these are 100% (although he didn't put CR2 or CR3 or any CR at all).

"New sensor technology (multi layer)
12fps shooting (or faster)
Dual Pixel AF
New AF system"

(and a few other comments about the body and wifi and so on at: http://www.canonrumors.com/2014/08/a-rundown-of-eos-7d-mark-ii-information/)

Holy Naked Mole Rats!!!!

Wow, sounds like the engineers escaped the basement closet and managed to lock the marketing droids in there and turn the tables.

Wow, this sounds potentially pretty amazing. Assuming some of the details did not get lost in translation.

This also sounds like pretty huge leaks to me, even bigger than recent leaks for other bodies though, so I don't see how this is clamping down on leaks

Almost all the other rumors had hinted that multi-layer or IQ stuff might not fully hit until the 5D4.
I just hope they can pull off multi-layer sensor. I have to imagine they couldn't dream of making this sort of body poor at high ISO. Wow, have they solved all of Fuji's issues? Might it deliver single layer high ISO quality, proper color under all lighting and did they also include new on-chip ADC for exmor shadows Or is it some weird mess since multi-layer sensor have all so far been so heavily compromised this would take a shocking level of breakthrough (but why force a weird mess out for no reason? and maybe this is why they reused the old sensors for a while, didn't feel like the expense of bothering with something intermediate and were just waiting for this ground-breaking change?).

I would be surprised by a couple of those specs .

No Wifi Built in . I would have thought wifi would be shipped with everything other than real base models

12fps . yes it could be that much but i would have thought 10 would be more like it .
But also if they push to 12 (or even 10) I would like to see them have a function where you can choose a lower but still usable number . sort of in 2 fps steps . even with the current ones 8 there is a huge drop to the lower 3ish . i found sometimes i didnt need 8 as i would end up with a card full of similar shots but 3 wasnt nearly enough .

if they make it look like a 1 series (without the grip) then great but they still need to include the popup flash still with speedlight control .

This might be enough to sway me from the Nikon camp. It'll be interesting to see what the camera is capable of. My D800 isn't exactly a speed demo when it comes to FPS.

One thought that I originally had but then put aside until someone else brought it up, is that someone may have mixed up multi-level EXPOSURE METERING SENSOR with multi-level IMAGING SENSOR.

In which case we would be back to Canon still not mentioning a thing about improving imaging sensors at all (other than for AF).

The other person looked over all of their multi-level imaging sensor patents and says that they look to be very inefficient for high ISO [and thus very unlikely to be used].

In which case we would be back to Canon still not mentioning a thing about improving imaging sensors at all (other than for AF).

And as some have said driving those pixels from multi-level imaging would be a bit greater step in Digic power per year improvement than before.

And Bayer would seem to be a lot more efficient for a 'reach' camera.

And Canon already used multi-level exposure metering sensors.

And it fit in better with CR claiming nothing big was revealed.

So I fear that this is likely just something that got lost in translation.

And yet, he did call it NEW sensor tech and since they already use multi-layer for the exposure metering sensor I don't know maybe it is the imaging sensor after all....

A multilayer sensor sounds awful unless it somehow has better noise characteristics at high ISO, which I doubt.

Couldn't it be the new sensor technology some evolution around the dual-pixel tech beyond the AF?. Imagine half of the pixels at some ISO level and the other half using another ISO setting (not rows or columns, but individual pixels). That would turn into an insane dynamic range (more than 20 stop?) with no resolution loss, except in the extreme highlight and shadows. By setting the same ISO in both sets, it would mimic the current sensors. That would introduce a fourth photography parameter (the exposure spread?).

Of course, only speculation, taking into account that rumors point to something new. In fact, my speculation well could have already been proposed out there (I don't follow the rumors in depth...).

That sort of sounds like Fuji's technology back in the S3 and S5, granted the really small pixels didn't add much in terms of resolution, it was mainly to provide more DR.

OK, well I guess (assuming the new CR specs are correct ) then those who doubted this and thought CR would go out on a limb of losing all credibility actually were correct (although if the new ones are correct then they did manage to get the specs a few weeks early this time so they'd have both blown credibility and done better than in some time all at the same time).

But OK, yeah I guess I put too much faith into what they were trying with their specs guess here, it seems like they were just trying to read patents and tea leaves and not basing it on anything despite claiming that it was 100%. So yeah you doubters were correct, CR would go there just for clicks. I was wrong it seems.

It's tough to be a rumor site for the one camera brand that is so good at keeping their new products secret.

If they released/leaked the specifications as a matter of course, the rumor site would cease to exist.

They love reading the speculation.

Sony leaks nearly all their specs months in advance and it makes SonyAlphaRumors a very successful site.

Because they leak the specs rather than release them.

If u no the leaks are accurate from experience then they are releases.

Canon does not leak and leaves the rest of you to speculate, while I work with my spies in the sky.

The main problem of Canon rumors may not be that Canon is good at controlling leaks... but that there is nothing exciting to leak to start with.

They got me a bit interested with the rumored 7DII specs a few days back with multi-layer sensor, 1D class build and 12 fps only to reveal that these 3 were mistaken...

Most rumor sites readers would be much better off as Sony users.

Cheers,
Bernard

Sure. When you have a crummy product, keep it secret as long as possible.
