p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Mountains and Flowers

These are all 'Round 1' edits. Still need to do a fair amount of fine tuning and clone stamping on the blend edges. Hoping to get some feedback as I go along here

What are your thoughts on color/composition/etc? Is one better than the other?
Feel free to do edits...

General methods -
Get exposures and white balance matched and initial color how I want it in LR
Auto-Align Layers in PS
Auto-Blend Layers for #2
Luminance mask with painting for #1 and #3
Final sharpening and color/contrast tweaks in LR

2 works best for me. When you have flowers in the foreground, they need to be dead sharp, even at the expense of more distant subjects. They also need good exposure.

In the first, the light was harsh on the flowers making it difficult to render them well.

In the second, you have good light, a much better subject and they appear sharper. The sky is less interesting but it does not matter and it is suitably dark to avoid any blown out effect.

The last is just not a very interesting subject.

This last image is along "Going to the Sun Road" if I am not mistaken. Hard place to shoot, because there are only a few pull-outs often packed with cars and tour busses. That scree is not very photogenic and it is a common feature along there.

Hey Ben, thanks for the feedback.

I agree #2 looks good. It will also be the easiest to manage I think. Just some halo around the mountains. The focus stack worked okay on the flowers.

I don't like the rendering on #1 either. It doesn't look crisp right now, I think because the edges of the flowers are blurred from the focus stack, with the OOF flowers from the 2nd image peeking through. I'll clean it up and try again.

I really want #3 to work, but I don't think it will, because of the scree field as you say. You're right that it's along going to the sun road.

2 works on many levels, and I forgot to say I really like it, I do.

Your big enemy on 1 is the light is killing contrast. Those broad leaves at the bottom don't help. If they were really sharp and darker, it would help. Consider cropping some off the bottom.

The sky and mountains are nice.

Nice shots. 2 is my favorite. In 1 & 2, my eyes are drawn to the foreground flowers. If you want to draw more attention to some of the background you can try cropping a little more from the bottom of each.

Ben, WildcatsFans - thanks for the input.

Gonna keep working on #1.

Here's an (I think) final version of #2, with some color/sharpening tweaks.
