Hello,

I have an ML-L3 remote from an older body that works well enough indoors, but does not seem to work at all outside in bright sunlight from any distance or orientation.

I'm looking for an alternate approach to permit remote control of my tripod mounted camera from a distance of approx 25-30 ft outdoors. Remote viewfinder might be nice, but not mandatory in this application.

1. Are there any RF (vs IR) solutions out there that will work on the D610 - Google is not helping, though I may not be using the right terms.
2. Will a wired/USB approach work at this distance?

Any suggestions/pointers?

Thanks!

I don't have an answer, but I have had the same experience with the D600. Here I kept getting closer and mashing the button. When the light came on I made a run for it. It did work on the next shot.

IR from the sun must be interfering with the remote's IR signals - if a battery switch doesn't help then you will need to spend many more $$$

Nikon makes some pro RF remotes, as do others - one I've heard of is CamRanger. Google will provide more choices if you use Nikon remote wireless Dxxx" or similar.

Wired is a mess.

I think the battery switch is a good idea. My battery is ~ 7yrs old. Meant to get a new one before vacation and forgot.

I have used mine from 30 yards with no problem. Should work to 100 yards or so.

+1 for Runamuck's suggestion. These work really good, I've got 2, no problems with either.

If you have cameras with different remote interfaces, you just buy another wire for $8.95. The remote itself works for all Nikon cameras.
