This RedTail was born on White Beeches Country Club this past winter and has become somewhat of a mascot.
I couldn't believe it when I saw some of the maintenance crew actually petting it.
There is nothing wrong with this bird, as he was seen killing a muskrat the previous day.
Oh yeah, we also have a litter of coyote pups too. The pictures were taken with my iphone.

It is always a special experience to interact with wildlife at such close range. TFS.

I had mixed emotions about it. The membership here is private and the members know enough not to feed the hawk. I'm actually glad about the fact that the hawk is acting a little more wild lately.

I'm lucky in that there is so much wildlife on this golf course and the fact that it is private, affords the wildlife some protection.
I've been watching these hawks from the time they were chicks. Ironically, I have not photographed them with the "Big Lens".

Hi Al, there must be something wrong with that guy, or at least it lacks the natural instinct to fear humans. I hope it fares well being that tame. Most raptor rehabbers don't release birds which have become domesticated like that one there for the sole reason that it has no natural fear and it's survival abilities diminish somewhat. At least that's what our local rehabber tells me.

Herb;

As I said, I had mixed emotions about the whole thing. It is very unusual for a RedTail to be acting that way. I've been watching this bird since it hatched, and his behavior is quite normal except for his lack of fear of humans.
He has been acting much more wild in the past few days and this "petting zoo" thing is just a anomaly.
It was, however amusing to watch for that brief time.

If there is no human feeding going on I think the switch will flip in this ones mind (as it does in all Redtails) and it will start avoiding close contact with man

I agree Tom. It does appear that this bird has returned to normal Red tail behavior in the last few days. The coyote pups are really cute too but no one has tried to pet them.

Interesting to see a wild raptor so calm in that situation.

A neat situation that I wouldn't mind experiencing, but I do hope it will "go wild" ~ Ron

Ken

It was unusual and kind of fun to watch. The good thing is....the hawk has become much more wild in the last couple of days.
BTW. This is the extent of my wildlife photography this summer.
The only bag I'm carrying lately has 14 clubs.

Ted
Not bad for an iphone.
For the record I also agree with Herb. ( can't believe I'm saying that) . The bird has gone wild. The good thing was he had very little direct contact with people. The staff was out early and most of the members really didn't take notice. They were trying to make their own " birdies"
