p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Waiting for my 1.7 Teleconverter to arrive.

I was reading a bunch of articles and comments on the web which made me start to doubt my decision to purchase it.

Then I discovered this guy on Flickr. I searched Flickr for my camera (D7000) plus 300mm F4 plus 1.7 tele which is how I found him.

I won't post a pic but here is a link to one of his pics -

https://www.flickr.com/photos/maurizio-beghelli/9037783465/

This has two favorites and one of the two is mine! After viewing his work I feel just fine with my purchase.

One only has to peruse the "love for the 300 f4" thread...to see stellar examples
of the TC-17E II in action, Tim. Saddened you sought confirmation elsewhere.

No kidding.
You sure don't have to link to some Flickr person for stellar examples of the combination...

But you know that... You've been all over that thread

Nah, I looked through all 42 pages in one go recently! I just got side tracked by other internet noise regarding the TC.

Sorry to be unclear. I was just amazed at some of this guys pics which get almost no views. I favorited the one example I posted. I'm one of two people that did that.

If I were doing it again I'd get the 1.4 teleconverter...

Kidding...

Well, seriously, I wouldn't buy it new at $500, but I'd like to try a 1.4 teleconverter someday to see if there really is that noticeable difference between it and the 1.7tc that certain people say exists, like Nasim Mansurov at Photography Life.

Having owned all 3, the TC-17E is the best compromise between reach, value and IQ. The TC-14E doesn't degrade the image at all, but doesn't really add much reach. The TC-20EIII adds a lot of reach, but also smears a lot of details and really slows down the lens' AF. The TC-17 is a "perfect" middle ground.

I agree- The TC-17 has work flawlessly with my 70-200 2.8 VR.

That was good deal Tim. I paid $275 for mine on B&$ and considered myself lucky. Will singing the praises in several threads " The poor man's 500" and the many stellar shots posted on the 300 f4 love thread was enough to convince me that I had to have one shortly after purchasing the 300/4. The 1.7 is on my 300/4 most of the time. You are going to love that combo. Look forward to seeing some of your shots.

Be careful. If you're expecting pro results and/or a pixel peeper, the TC17EII requires very good technique and good glass to get good results from using a camera with a high-density sensor. Fine tuning is an absolute must. Good technique (unless you're blessed with sunshine all the time and can shoot at very high SS) is an absolute must. Stopping down w/most lenses is also an absolute must (to get the best results).

My TC17EII worked quite well on my D300 and D3 on my 500VR...mostly due to the bigger pixels on those sensors. But it never got along with my D800 unless I was shooting full frame and down-rezzing...which shooting FX was like ... never.

Anyway, be prepared to learn a lot to get the best out of it.

Good luck!
