I've thought about it... but I really like mirrorless. I have gone through so many DSLR's and various kits (am a gearhead, cannot help it). I just had a Pentax K-3 and sold it because, well... I didn't really like it. It was a nice camera, and I loved it at first, but then I grew to dislike it. Not sure why. I want to stick with mirrorless - smaller, lighter. I still get crap for bringing a 30 lb bag on a trip to Yosemite - whatever, but truth is I would have been better off with less stuff/smaller stuff.

So you think even the X-T1 tracking won't do? I am not tracking F1 cars, just my 3 year old and soon to be 0 year old.

Fwiw, my Fuji tracks as well as my a6000, though does so at a lower burst rate. (And you can only use the center 9 focus points vs the entire frame on the a6000) I have very good success with my X-T1 and my 56/1.2 even wide open. There is more viewfinder delay during a burst with the X-T1 but there's a reason Fuji is my main kit.

Interesting... thanks.

The X-E1 is lovely in most respects, but it doesn't do a few key things well at all. No regrets of course.

A quick Q to the Sony gurus here: is there any way of selecting a square format in the camera?I see from the specs that 3:2 and 16:9 are selectable—but I want 1:1. Is there any way of doing this?

On the a6000, it's only 3:2 or 16:9.

You can use square grid to help you frame though. As long as you are okay cropping to square in post, that ought to suffice.

I will have a look at one of these bodies to see if the grid option can get the square frame right (I am in HK now); I will need a US/Canada model though for the frame rates.

Here's the square grid. Doesn't block out, but the 4x4 central squares will make a perfect 1:1 ratio.

Thanks Jordan; that'll work fine. Cheers, Kit. I will order next week; it will be waiting for me in Bellingham!

I am very close to buying the A6000, but still can't decide which lens to get, So I am asking one more time, should I get the 35mm or the 50mm?

Here is another thing though, I take all my vacation pics and regular pic in general with my iPhone 5S, which is with me all the time and it is very handy and the pics come out very nice.

Now I want the new camera mostly for around the house for kids with and parties indoors may be a few outdoors, but even with its small size I can't see myself taking the A6000 on vacation etc.

Would it be better to buy a refurb Canon t3i which is for like $300 or so and get a nifty fifty for those kinds of situations, and keep using iPhone for everything else.

Between canon and Nikon which has nicer colors and how does the sony compare to them.

Just get the cheapest, smallest thing you will want to carry. There's no sense buying something bigger or more expensive if you don't think you'll have it with you. Nex-6 are pretty cheap right now.

I would definitely get the 35mm. It's a better lens, and it's a more useful focal length for what you're saying you want to shoot. If you get a 50mm (whether it's with the A6000 or the Canon t3i), you're going to find you'll need to back up quite a bit to get multiple partygoers/kids in the shot, and that may be a problem indoors.

I personally like Sony colors, but I wouldn't consider that a major factor in your decision here.

For this use, definitely the 35.

The A6000 and 35/1.8 is a great combo. After you start using it, you may find you take it with you more often than you're anticipating now.

As far as Nikon vs. Canon vs. Sony - those of us on this forum have chosen Sony and, for many of us, after using Nikon or Canon. If you go to the Nikon or Canon forum I'm sure you'll get different answers. Just remember that you can get good photos with almost all cameras today if you learn how to use them.

Jeff, is this the 35 you are recommending?

Sony 35mm f/1.8 OSS Alpha E-mount. And does anyone know is there are any review comparisons between it and the Touit 32/1.8?

I could be weakening here...

Kit, that's the one. Here's a review comparison:

http://3d-kraft.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=146:35mm-touit-sony-hyperprime-comparison-review&catid=40:camerasandlenses&Itemid=2

But I have both the Sony 35/1.8 OSS and the Touit 32/1.8. Here's my quick comparison.

The Touit has better micro contrast and I prefer it to the Sony 35/1.8 for landscape and architectural shots.

I prefer the Sony 35 for everything else. I think it has a better OOF rendering and just a better overall rendering for people shots. I find the OSS to be helpful in some situations and used on the A6000 there is no comparison with AF since the Sony 35 uses the PDAF focusing of the A6000 and the Touit 32 does not. The Sony is plenty sharp. For low light shots where I'm concerned about sharpness, I just stop down from 1.8 to 2.2 and there it's sharp enough for me.

Hey sid369,

The A6000 is awesome but before you buy, I suggest you have a look at the Nikon D5300. More lenses available, better battery and a real microphone jack that does not necessitate an adaptor...

Check out the following comparison review...
