I hear you, but after many visits out there, months at a time, this is what I would strongly recommend: Spend your entire trip in Moab. More to do/see than you can imagine and the time saved by not driving can be put to good use. In Arches, do Delicate Arch, Double O (and all those along the trail or not far off it) and Dark Angel, Windows Section, Park Avenue, etc. Other arches are also worthwhile. Remember, it may take more than one trip to Delicate Arch or Balanced Rock to get that great sunset.
In Island In The Sky: Mesa Arch at Dawn, DHP at dawn, False Kiva at dawn (that's three days), Upheaval Dome, Green River Overlook.
Not in the parks: Corona Arch (dawn is best), Wilson Arch, Looking Glass Arch, drive along Route 128 (sun setting) to Fisher Towers. Ken's Lake, beautiful waterfalls. Mills Creek hike, beautiful pool and waterfall. Petroglyphs all over town, particularly Potash Rd and Kane Creek Rd, and over by the golf course. A flight over the area is a great way to photograph stuff you will otherwise never see. Red Tail Aviation, $250 for 1.5 hours, great experience. There are balloon flights, boat tours, rafting, Jeep tours...a way to get stuff you haven't thought of. If you have a high clearance vehicle, many other places such as Gemini Bridges (to me, better than Natural Bridges), Shafer Trail, etc. Hike Negro Bill Canyon early in the day to see Morning Glory Arch. For fall color, drive the LaSals. I could go on.
I love visiting Monticello, Bluff, Blanding, MV and doing the slots along Route 95, but a week won't get it done. Why not plan to come back (again and again, even staying longer)? I've been doing that for years, still haven't seen it all....Show more →
All great suggestions here and many of the same things I've been researching for my trip next month.
