I will post more critique later if I have time, but #10, stop that! Those shots will never be delivered by the primary and have a small chance of pulling the attention/eyes of one of the subjects. Look at 8 in contrast. For that shot you took his posing and created a very nice composition while not having any negative impact on Duy's shot. Shots like #8 add huge value for the primary, while shots like #10 can only cause problems. If you do not see a shot like #8, find other ways to be helpful. Does the primary need something, can you look around for other shots/areas, make sure no uncle bobs are pulling eyes away from where the primary wants them, things of that sort....Show more →
I totally get your point, Joe. I may be wrong, but you may be confused. The guy in #8 (groom) and the guy in the middle of #10 (groomsman) are two different guys. For what it's worth, #10 was taken with the exact intent your are suggesting. The three guys in the photo are the groomsmen. While it looks like they're posing for a camera (the guy's arms on the other two guys), they weren't. They were just... hanging out, haha! They were waiting around and joking while the primary was taking a portrait of just the groom and the best man. Regardless, I agree with you 100%. I was trying to keep it candid, but since no other photographer was taking their portrait, I probably should have just asked them to look at me.
