Well,

Got up bright and early, drove to Dead Horse Point at 4:00 am to try and catch a great sunrise. Yesterday's was a 1 in 365 day one! Unfortunately (or fortunately), there were suddenly high winds and quite a bit of lightning in the dark. As sunrise came and went, it was just gray everywhere. But patience is a virtue they say, and eventually I got my reward with a brief but intense lighting of the Colorado River Bend. There was also a quick rainbow that I missed, sorry...

Thanks for looking!

Hey Craig,

That is some super sweet light there. I really like the view you got. I would suggest to crop some off the bottom to lose that small bit of spot light along the bottom edge. That being lit up there will draw the eye away from the nicely light bend.

Great shot Craig. That side light is fantastic. It's a good thing you stayed around and didn't get discouraged by the lack of a "good" sunrise. To be honest, this is probably a more "unique" photo of the place than the many many sunrise shots at dead horse.

I love it. You should print it big. never mind. You do have so many great images. Time to build a bigger house Craig.

Very nice use of light and shade to produce an excellent moody image. Well done!

Wow Craig, really fantastic image. I'm glad your patience was rewarded. I like how you processed this one; plenty of details in the shadows while at the same time they remain dark...just like shadows should. As far as Jim's suggestion to crop, I tried a quick "browser crop" off the bottom, but that made it feel a bit cramped for me for some reason. I definitely draws the eye, but I think I'm fine with it. Nice work.

Edit: On second thought, I believe a crop would work here.

Stunning shot Craig. I didn't expect that when I opened up the page (though with you I should have known) !

Sweet, sweet light, amazing scenery.

Jim's 'Spot Light' at the bottom : I wouldn't crop it off, the dimensions seem perfect to me and it would seem cramped after cropping. However maybe a little local PP to reign in the highlights there so they don't grab the attention so much ?

Thanks guys!

"where's the lightning strike photo?
David."

I leave that to Klaus !

I'll consider the crop, although my feeling is when anything gets lit up you keep it! But I like Frogfish's idea...

Excellent moody image, but the highlights at the bottom left are distracting to me. Cropping isn't an option as it spoils the balance of the image, so I would suggest subduing the highlights, or maybe cloning them out.
